I don't use VLC, because I dislike the GUI. And the stock windows one works fine.

Gom Media player all the way, I have yet to run into something it cannot play.  And in the rare event a video is using an oddball codec, Gom finds it and installs it for you.

I use it only for videos, more specifically .flv and .mp4 files. I just wish the interface was not so grey!

PS- You may want to add a poll.

VLC can have skins

I only use it for things that Windows Media Player doesn't support, like FLAC and stuff.

It annoys me, though, because when you start the song or skip to a part of the song, it speeds up slightly for a few seconds, bending the pitch, and it's really annoying...

There is a ton of customization options in vlc. When you go to tools>custom interface you can pretty much change whatever you want. Also there is a bunch of cool skins available. Do ctrl-p and under interface>look and feel there is an option to use custom skins. There is a good variety of ones on the website that they link you to.

I didn't mind WMP in windows 7 but windows 8 made me switch after 2 days XD

Not to go off topic, but what is different about WMP in 7 and 8? Maybe the modernUI version is different, but the standard desktop version is built in as well and it's identical to Windows 7 version as far as I can tell.

I use VLC for video and Media player for local music. Rhapsody for my streamed music.

I chose "some other stuff", I use VLC some times but honestly XBMC and PLEX are the way to go. Both XBMC and PLEX will play anything you throw at them and they have better picture quality and sound then VLC and alot better interface that can be customizable to no other. The best feature I like about XBMC as it is the application I use the most when it comes to media, you do not have to unrar a media file with winrar or 7zip, XBMC will just play the media file without unraring it.

I wanted to say I used <p> but we all know it isn't as good.  I use VLC because it is the quickest and has the audio track synching feature that is so awesome.  For audio I typically use winamp.
