Do You Find This offensive?

So my friend needed a new monitor for a budget gaming rig I built for him. He wanted a gaming monitor and I strongy cautioed him to avoid them as they have many features that he would never use and are generally much more expensive. So he ended up choosing a BenQ RL monitor. I then than said: "Good. At least you chose a good gaming monitor for the money." He then sent responce saying "you ***hole! You are so rude!" I found this extremely surprising. Do you think what I said was in any way offensive?

Perhaps that you assumed that he'd get it wrong? hit him right in the feels?

I don't think in any way were you trying to be rude.  You were being helpful.  His response definitely was rude.  Ask you friend for an apology and if he is a decent human being he will give you one for saying what he said.

 

Oh wait a sec people are going to say don't be soft and take it.  Well it is tiring to live in a world where this is a response by many.  How about improving society for all to live in instead of ruining it one moment at a time.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I am guessing he saw it as one of these things:

 

1. Indirectly maybe said he had a shitty rig, as the only decent thing he has is the monitor he is going for.

2. Indirectly maybe said that the monitor he was going for was shitty(good for the money =/= bad I know, just guessing)

 

I don't find it too offensive, but with the wrong mindset, it could sound like it was meant offensively.

The "at least" and "for the money" parts could be taken as condescending and such if he is a very neurotic person. Unless you're interested in dating him or something I would pay no mind to that as friends are not supposed to deal with someone else's insane fucking bullshit.

He was probably confused because you were telling him not to get a gaming-centric monitor, but then said "good, you got a good gaming monitor" when he told you what he ended up with.

Sounds like you were looking down on him from my pov. I don't think it was your intent. This happened with me before where I was trying to help a friend and he did not take my advise because he thought I was looking down on him for not knowing anything. I wouldn't let this bother you.
