Posted March 9, 2015 So I've been using a $60 ball head tripod for personal video use the last year or so. At the time, $60 was ALOT of money for me to spend on my fledgling hobby, but as I've started getting more into it, I've decided to invest into a good video head and legs. So here I have a Manfrotto 509HD on the 545 legs....a good $1500ish of kit (Australian). Has been sitting in its box unopened for weeks now and I finally got the time to play with it. Ten minutes in and I was my own human tripod. Everything is just so smooth. And it's HUGE, at full height, it dwarfs me (I'm over 6 foot tall) and takes up so much space I can actually fit my old, tripod under it, fully erect. Am excited to have something like this when I'm still relatively new to videography, so thought I'd share
 Posted March 9, 2015 @Dredgy thats a pretty serious head for somebody just starting video, I would have said start out with like an mv502ah, which is an amazingly smooth fluid head for the price however, thats a beast what camera are you shooting with? Posted March 9, 2015 Author Misleading title and setting up camera in the bedroom, one wonders what types of movies you shoot @Newenthusiast. Hehe. I know where the money is. That's not actually my bedroom though, my bedroom is in the last pic with the computers in the background. That is a dedicated studio/workshop, it just has a bed in there for the summer because it's the only room in my house that is air conditioned. @Dredgy thats a pretty serious head for somebody just starting video, I would have said start out with like an mv502ah, which is an amazingly smooth fluid head for the price however, thats a beast what camera are you shooting with? 502 won't take my load (yay, more double entendre). At the moment with the monitor, follow focus, teleprompter, camera, cage, iPad, microphone and other equipment, I'm pushing 7.5kgs of stuff sitting on it. I am currently shooting with a Canon EOS 550D, but have a BlackMagic URSA on its way next week for a 3 day trial, and if I like it I will likely be upgrading to that in April. The 504 would take my weight, but if I upgrade to the URSA, that weighs as much as my current rig in its entirety. I don't want to have to replace this tripod for at least 5 years. OT: 502AH is a good head? I'm thinking about adding a fluid head to my setup because a ball head is unusable for video, and I was looking at that one. 15" MBP TB AMD 5800X | Gigabyte Aorus Master | EVGA 2060 KO Ultra | Define 7 || Blade Server: Intel 3570k | GD65 | Corsair C70 | 13TB
 Definitely, I actually use the MV500ah, as does my friend with his D800 which is a cheaper lighter version (unless you are putting TONS of weight on the head) its SUPER smooth, its amazing for pans Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb, 4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii
