PSU's & finding the right one

Guest

Yes. It will handle it easier actually, since the GTX960 has a lower power draw than the 560.

Sweet. Thank you for the fast reply!

I dread the day when I have to change my power supply... All those cables.

CPU: Intel i5 3550           | Cooler: Corsair A50          | Motherboard: Asus P8Z77      | Storage: Crucial MX200 250GB |

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB   | GPU: GTX 1650                | Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black)  | PSU: EVGA 650W G2            |

Hello peeps. first time here (or second? whatever). please pick me a power supply.

I am a cyber cafe owner running diskless environment. to explain with a little trivia, diskless means no disk. the client is instead booting from LAN and a server with bootable OS (and games) will be on standby to provide said boot. pretty neat when you're managing something like 50+ computer clients, all sharing a single OS image. even more amazing is that the OS image is read only (requires a password to be read and write). meaning zero headaches for viruses.

back on my query. my specs are as follows

A6 5400k

motherboard

4g ram

... and that's it. according to my wattmeter, one unit is consuming 50-55 watts in-game. what's the best PSU pick for this build? something cheap, but 85% efficient

and for my diskless server (the one giving the boot OS to clients), its specs are

intel g1840

motherboard

8g ram

2x WD blue 1gb

1x plextor SSD 128gb

nvidia gt730 (because I also play in the server)

...what's the best PSU for this little server? hoping 90% efficiency as the server is running 17 hours a day.

major edit: decided to just post this in a new thread. please delete.

Hi mates ... I wanna ask if a Corsair AX760i is enough or an overkill for this kind of setup :

- i'm not gonna overclock the components

Intel i7 5820K

Asus Rampage V Extreme

Dual Asus Strix GTX 970 (SLI)

32GB (4x8) DDR4 Corsair Dominator Platinum 2800Mhz

Corsair H100i

other stuff :

2 1TB SSD Samsung Evo

BluRay Writer

3 x 140mm fans

2 x 120mm fans

- the eXtreme Power Supply calculator recommends a minimum of 650watts since the total wattage was 578watts. I just wanna know your thoughts about this. If there is a better recommendation for a PSU, just let me know. Thank you .

I was looking into getting a Sapphire dual-x R9 280X and on their website it states that it requires 750w(http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=2022&lid=1#) but on the cooler master tool it said that I need about 500w.

CPU - i5-4460

GPU-Listed above

Ram - 2xG.Skill Ripjaws 4G

Optical Drives - 1 regular DVD player

Hard Drive - 1 SSHD

I would appreciate if someone could give me a idea of what the wattage should be.

For now I'm going to just stick with the what the website states just in case.

They mean, that you need at least 750w psu to power your entire system. Although, they don't actually know, what spec's do you have. I think, 500w would be ok (I mean real 500w on output), but u'd wanna buy more, because of any future upgrades. Get 650 or 700 w psu, it won't consume more than it needs anyways.

I'm building a PC for Gaming and school work with these components:
GPU: MSI GTX 960 Krait edition
MSI z97 SLI Krait edition Motherboard
CPU: Intel i5 4690K
RAM: 8GB
SSD and HDD
NZXT h440 case
Antec 650W gold PSU

I have heard bad things about Antec power supplies on their older ones, but i see+LinusTechTips  using them for some of their videos. Are their new ones Any good for a build like this.

I have been getting the part for a new build as I find them on sale.  I already have the I7 4790K (don't know if it being haswell matters) and am trying to figure out what ~650-750watt 80+ Gold power suply to get.

I have been looking, mostly on newegg, at a few differen't supplies and I was hoping that someone would be nice enough to point out any issues.

What specs will you be running with it?

If it can provide sufficient power for your system it is a solid PSU.

Do you have a certain online store you buy from? Do you have a preference for a non modular, semi, or fully modular PSU?

It should run fine with that PSU, but if you can try to buy a higher quality unit. Ideally you want one from Tier One or Two from this list:

I buy from either amazon(.de!), "hardwareversand.de", hoh.de or alternate.de

Modular is nice i guess but i wouldnt pay 20€ for it. So no real preference
