It always depends on if I'm talking to someone, playing a game etc.

 

If I'm playing a game where hearing is nice or I'm talking to someone, it's usually around middle range (even though it's like 5% volume on my PC -thanks sennheiser-) but if I'm doing something where listening isn't needed, it's medium-high

I have a nice stereo/speakers, but usually I prefer to listen on headphones. It just puts you in your own little bubble, so to speak.

When I used to listen to EDM, Dubstep etc. I used to crank it up, but then i realized what good quality audio was, and changed forever. Now i crank it up to a level that seems "realistic' to what it would sound like irl, if you get what i mean.
Also, it's pretty bad to crank up headphones for a long period of time supposedly

my volume is on high in the player and i use windows to change volumese

Rock music. If you're ears aren't threatening to bleed it isn't loud enough.....

 

No really I prefer a bit louder than is ideal for rock, and metal. Classical at a nice easy volume (unless it's the 1812.)

Music is between 80-90 dbs average with peaks up to 100 db, unless I'm really wanting to listen, and then it might get turned up a bit.  Movies?  I like "theater reference" in my living room which is 110 db peaks at my couch, 12ft off of the speakers.  Think fourth to ninth row back from the screen.

Earbuds are my preferred method. Almost always have the most amount of detail and isolation. I mean, I'm sure there are $200+ headphones that I would say are better than my Shure Se215's, but none that I have laying around. I have some pretty good speakers, but I love the sound going straight into my ears.

How should I know, I adjust volume depending on average level of any sort of audio, not to mention that sometimes I just feel like listening to it at a louder/lower volume.  All the choices are vague, what's loud to me might be quiet to someone else.

If you own a smart phone look for a free version of an app called "SPL meter" and do some testing.

Well, to be honest the last time I listened to music was at the gig I did sound for last night:

 

 

112dB behind the speakers (don't ask)  and 114dB front of house.

In terms of movies, medium level is good enough for me.

 

With music, however, I use the highest volume that exist, that does not physically hurt my ears.

For movies. I want it to sound like all the action was happening in my livingroom. 7,1 home theater system <3
