I think that maybe Linus' frequent jokes about firing Luke make his employees afraid to tell him when his skit ideas are too... out there.

I have to say this was one of the worst episodes in a very long time - as far as i'm concerned:

1) Overdone cheesiness

2) The build log part was shorter than the cheese, adverts and sub-like-what-not with little to no useful reasoning

3) For a "dream" build all the down-to-earth cuts were, haha, unreasonable. That was an extremely uninspired budget-sweet spot build, rather than a full blown out dream video-editing workstation.

You don't throw out a sponsored video with a "dream" in description, then argue that 16gb is a reasonable choice for potential upgrades in the future. Especially when a silly 1080p render in premiere pro can eat up 18GB of memory.

Regards,

Jasmin

P.S. I understand budget concerns as I don't think WD was willing to offer much for the actual build, but i prefer to call the things by their name, rather then use corporate-like hyperboles and then don't deliver

What the heck is with the sound in this video? It's all over the place, like some kind of 7.1 surround sound test combined with various forms of muffling.

What happened to Lauren from TastyPC doing this build?

Agreed.

I'd also add there's nothing 'dreamy' about this build at all.

If we're to take WD's original intention of this build from here.

They’ll need a fast machine with plenty of RAM, a nice monitor, speakers, a huge storage array—and anything else you can dream up.

But don’t worry about the budget.

This does not have 'plenty' of ram, nor does it have speakers or a huge storage array. Software Raid 1 of 2x6TB? C'mon. WD said don't worry about the budget and Linus is worried about the price of a 32GB DDR4 kit?

The fuck did I just watch....

that was oddly...

sexual.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Pretty sure this isn't possible...yet but still. I have 2 SSD's in raid 0 and 2 WD Red's in raid 1 using the mobo controller.

Is it possible to use the raided SSD's to cache the raided HDD's ?

You should have added that disabling the hibernate sleep mode, can also free up a lot of memory on your ssd bootdrive if you need it. In my case it was about 40gigabyte (depends on amount of ram) and it's absolutely not necessary, you can still use the normal sleep mode, and i havent noticed any drawbacks since disabling it.
