I'm not so sure about this. All things considered, I'm sure they looked into temperature issues and are managing them however well they can in such a form factor. They're not stupid.

Do you enjoy burning your lap while on your laptop? Here is the laptop for you, because shoving a desktop class CPU into a laptop makes so much sense (especially at the prices these will run). I get paying a lot for a laptop and I get that laptops with todays Haswell chips and Maxwell GPUs are no slouches in gaming, I don't get something like this. 

 

Lets not even talk about how badly this will throttle. Cool, slim, powerful. You don't get to have all 3, and in the quest for a slimmer profile these guys probably sacrificed the cooling a lot. 

 

Even so, the company managed to reduce the size of these lappies by a good bit. Both are around 40% thinner and 30% lighter than before; the EON17-X and EON15-X now check in at 1.52 inches thick and 8.5 lbs and 1.4 inches and 7.49 lbs, respectively. No one would mistake one of these beastly things for an ultrabook, but they do look a bit less chunky than lots of gaming notebooks, especially considering the desktop CPU inside. 

 

In addition to the Intel chips (and Origin’s factory overclocking), the systems offer up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 M (8 GB), up to 32 GB of RAM, and support for m.2 PCI-E, SSD and HDD storage up to 4 TB with a variety of RAID 0/1 options. They also feature backlit keyboards with a full numpad and anti-ghosting keys (which, let’s be honest, is essential to an optimal laptop gaming experience).

Alright, that's just taking it too far. I understand the idea of it, but refuse to accept that it is a sensible choice. It would make far more sense to try and put a desktop GPU in than a desktop CPU if it's a gaming rig, the intel laptop CPUs are more than enough for a GTX 970.

if the stock intel heatsink that comes with the 4790k is wimpy, then how the hell would one with a laptop be any better?  as many people said before, this thing will thermal throttle, no question about it.  It would make sense if it were just a 4790 processor, BUT WHY A K EDITION?  if you overclock the thing, the processor will not only die quickly, but it might burn you.

But alienware had a 4940MX on their 18 inch permanently overclocked to 4Ghz at PAX i think, so i think they might just get away with it
