Minneapolis gets 10Gbit Internet, $400 a month

XTankSlayerX

The insanely-fast internet is being offered by Minnesota's US Internet company, who already provide the City of Lakes with 1 Gigabit connections for $65 per month.

According to the Star Tribune, 30,000 residents of Minneapolis can take advantage of the service beginning yesterday afternoon. However, only the most speed-hungry users need apply, as the service costs $400 per month. To put the speed into perspective, downloading a modern HD video game that weighs in at 40 GB would take just over half a minute under optimal conditions.

US Internet currently has around 10,000 customers in the city, but hopes that the sheer insanity of its internet speeds will help win customers away from their local competitor Comcast. Comcast in Minneapolis currently offers a 50 Megabit plan for $77, while US Internet is pricing its popular 100 Megabit plan at $45.

I bet other places have better deals for the money... And I'll just sit here with my high as hell ping and low download and upload. This makes my internet like a computer from 1990 against my Xeon rig...

3 or more adult power users and maybe its a good idea but 10gbit is a bit too much for now.

Speaking as a Minneapolis resident, US Internet services a very very small wealthy area in the uptown region of Minneapolis. I've considered moving there a handful of times only to be reminded that most of the residential housing that has the service is rather expensive to live in. Still really good knowing that it's an option and they are planning on expanding their infrastructure.

You think your ping is bad? On most games the minimum ping I can get is 80. Lowest I get is ~60 on some Canadian BF4 servers.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

That's how my ping normally is in games. Like sometimes when it flips out, it'll stay in the 90-100s for a week then lower but lower my download and upload. :/

I'm curious to know if they would really release the full 10Gbps speed or they're just would advertise that speed just to get you hooked. ;)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.
