[GT] Geforce GTX 960 with GM206 in January

Go to solution Solved by TwistedDictator,

I decided to make a good "best answer". I do it for the likes ;)

The start with the Specs: If it performs like a 770 with a 2GB VRAM then it could lead to a better 960ti; That could be the reason that they made a crappy 960. I would rather buy a 780ti then 960 BUTthats just me. 2GB VRAM is not enough.

The new design looks like a cheap peice of dustbin but its a Ref deisgn. Who buys ref design? Spend that extra £10 and a MSI or Gigabyte design.

Lastly the price is a joke. But I can gaurantee that it would go down if there where going to release a 960ti. They just want to milk certain fan boys ;)

It's possible they don't want to affect 970 980 sales, hence the performance gap.

It blows me away that Nvidia would come this weak with a card people have been on pins and needles for since October. Well, if this report is anywhere in the ballpark, that is. The rumor has always been that Nvidia was scared of the 960 cannibalizing their 970 sales and thus are holding it for a Q1 2015 release, but with the 970 bettering AMD's flagship 290x in almost every way at 1080p for $330, I don't see what Nvidia was scared of if the 960 is as handicapped as reported.

You actually like the plastic cooler with a huge penis extension and just a solid copper and aluminium block as a heatsink?

Kinda, yes.

2GB of VRAM isn't mid-end anymore. There's a reason the 760 is the fastest free-falling in resell value card since forever and a half. Unless they price this like a 750 Ti and retire the 750 Ti, they can forget selling even a single one.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

This is only rumour. Remember that Nvidia dropped the bomb of 970 by selling them for $330 3 days before it launches and basically wet the pants of many many gamers.

Personally, I'd love to see this card selling at $200 with the same performance of 770, then put 960ti at $250

Source doesn't look trustworthy but if anyone was expecting more than a gtx 770 performance I'll be surprised. I highly doubt it's that price too based on the 900 pricing and if it has a 128bit bus it'll be much cheaper than the previous x60 cards to produce.

GT was pretty reliable before they went down. They dont post if they know its a grain of salt. If you read the post then you would know that they didnt find the information. The information was found at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Nvidia pls. I was curious about this card, but it gets a resounding "meh". You're better served buying a price dropped R9 290. Still awaiting to see what AMD comes out since there was some hype over a "R9 380X" awhile back.

Glad I'm getting a 4gb 970. This card just looks sad. Although maybe they actually put the green Geforce logo on the side for once.

Edit: which kinda pisses me off since my Strix wont have that >.<

Still waiting for high end $100 dollar card.

Broadwell 5770k or Skylake 6770k with Iris Pro 6200 and 7200 respectively are calling your name! Think of it as the price of an I5 now plus $125 dollars for the graphics cores and 64MB of L4 cache.

You're borderline shilling at this point.

Hardly. Core M's benchmarks are proving Intel delivered on its graphics improvements of 40% greater throughput per core per clock in addition to the 20% jump in core count. Since we already know the 5770k comes with Iris Pro 6200 (I have a post about this from reliable sources also here on LTT), and we know Intel intends to leap from 48 EUs to 72 on Skylake (50% more cores, notwithstanding any increase in SIMD units per core), we know the 6770k will also have Iris Pro 7200. Pardon me but that's not a joke of a GPU. Haswell Gen 7.5 graphics had a memory bottleneck by putting 10 EUs in a subslice which all went through one data path. Broadwell shrank that from 10 cores to 8 and adding a 3rd subslice. Now we're going to start seeing what Intel can really do, and even AMD fanchildren like OpCode are going to have to admit Intel does amazing stuff when it decides it has to.

Lenovo's disastrous rollout blew up in its face when it accused Intel of lying about the thermal and electrical envelopes it set (I also posted about this), only for it to be proved Lenovo rushed a product to market without proper engineering.

The reality is Intel provided strong enough graphics for corporate users. Now it's pursuing compute density to keep AMD's APUs out of the supercomputing world. They went ahead and implemented unified memory in Broadwell when that was supposed to be a Skylake feature, made it fully OpenCL 2.0 compliant, OpenGL 4.5 Compliant, and DX 12 compliant. If you think Intel can't make a great AIO chip for the person who wants a decent $100 GPU, you're crazy. Why buy the I5 and a dGPU that sucks up more power when you can have the same gaming capability by just getting the I7 with Iris Pro on it?

Intel has been after AMD's and Nvidia's lowest end dGPU business for a few years now and has stolen a lot of it. If you think it can't take everything shy of Nvidia's x50 and AMD's x50 cards, you're naive. The GTX 720/30 and R3 220/30 cards out there are less powerful than Iris Pro 5200 that had architecture-level bottlenecks. Do you really think Iris Pro 6200 won't watch the GT940?

If the following is any indication, it will: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6993/intel-iris-pro-5200-graphics-review-core-i74950hq-tested/6
