Mini-news: Forget ASUS 4K 28inch IPS. Dell presents new 4K IPS 27inch and 24inch. Cheaper.

GoodBytes

So its been leaked before, and pricing and specs where unknown at least for sure.

Well now its all there, hence why its marked as mini-news.

Dell-monitor-P2715Q-2014-12-04-01.jpg]

So, Dell refreshes its 24inch 4K IPS monitor, and introduce a new 27inch 4K monitor.

Both monitors are 60Hz (via DP 1.2), IPS, 1.07 billion colors (10-bit colors), 3,840 x 2,160 monitors, with Dell solid fully adjustable stand, and comes with 99 percent sRGB coverage pre-calibrated profile with report, and Dell easy to navigate on screen menu.

The 27inch is 700$, a whole 100$ cheaper than ASUS new 4K IPS monitor, and the 24inch is 600$ only (old one was 1300$, then went down to 1000$, and used Multi-stream, and not single stream as it should).

Monitor mode is: P2415Q for the 24inch, and P2715Q for the 27inch

It has been out for nearly three weeks, and I mention it in my post regarding pricing of them in Hong Kong and China....
(I mentioned them in my post just becoz a member mentioned a huge discount of P2715Q in the US in the comments. I know I should divided them into 2 posts....)

If I had just a little more money, it is so close now though. 4K with good panels have come such a long way in a short amount of time and cost so much less. Maybe in a year I will be able to get one.

I doubt Dell put true 10-bit color on a P series line of monitors. Most likely its 8-bit with dithering coupled with a slower response time.

It still may be worth it for some to have the Asus for $100 more.

24inch!?!?!

PrKg8.gif

seriously though i can't wait for desktop screens to have the same pixel density as phone have these days, i know is gonna take time but for me this is sign is slowly coming, also for those worried about gaming just turn down to 1080p its a perfect downscale and it will probably wont look that much different that 4K

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

Correct. All consumer market monitors are true 8-bit panels, an achieve 10-bit via emulation (A-FRC).

However, it is used to distinguished, usually (they are exceptions, like the Dell U2714HM), 6-bit panel with FRC to emulate 8-bit colors (16.7 million colors).

Correct. Same colors. It's 27inch instead of 28inch. Probably part of the same panel series as ASUS. I am not sure if ASUS one comes pre-manufacture calibrated however, not that it maters to professionals, but for the consumer, it's nice to have something you can put on your desk, select sRGB color profile, and get stunning colors.

It's already out. I have added product links in the main post.

I agree. High-DPI is the way forward. It's nice to see more and more big apps are getting high-DPI aware thanks to the increase in popularity of Windows powered tablets which have a high PPI display for it's size, laptops with high resolution displays, and now desktop computer monitors.

What is incredible is that monitor technology has ALWAYS moved at snail pace. And now its moving super fast. That is just incredible. It's like the snail jump inside a jet. Who knows what will be next once 4K becomes affordable. True 120Hz IPS panels?

Now for single GPUs to get a bump in power to be able to properly drive 4K. Doesn't matter if 4K monitors are going down in price when you still need a multi GPU to get the most out of it.

"But Apple has 5k and a blah blah GPU.." No one buys an Apple anything for gaming.

A single GeForce 980 will handle that. 970 should do to, but you will have to give up super high settings in game, and only go medium high. Of course, it depends on the game. But if you want "I want to be sure" graphics card, then next gen should be able to handle it, assume you don't plan on getting a 980Ti (if that ever comes out), due to price, you have to wait a while before a new GPU is out. Possibly over a year.

Now Dell really have my attention, previously i was most interested in the benq 2.5k 24inch but that still has no price tag or release date. The idea of being able to get triple 4k and not take up any more room on my desk is fantastic to me. Now I just need to know how much these are going to cost in Australia.

Desktop -  i5 4670k, GTX 770, Maximums VI Hero, 2X Kingston Hyper X 3k in raid zero.

Laptop - Lenovo X230 Intel 535 480GB, 16GB Gskill memory, Classic Keyboard Mod, Triple USB 3.0 Express Card.
