PS4 and Xbox have raised PC system requirements

I believe it's somewhere around there. The Xbox One has something like a 250X. Whatever the 7850 equivalent is.

7850 is the R7 265. But it's not as powerful in the XB1 because it uses slower system ram, so it's more like a 7770 or R7 260.

The CPUs in the Xbox One and PS4 are eight core Jaguar SoCs. Jaguar is a mobile architecture. They're clocked at around 1.6GHz.

These are the same cores found on the AM1 platform Athlon 5150 and 5350 quad-core APUs. Jam two of those together and you have a console CPU. :P

I love this quote from the article: "New cross-platform titles are putting computers to the test because they’re designed for consoles that, in certain ways, are fundamentally better for games than an average PC."

No wonder there is so much stupidity surrounding games when reporters eat shovels of the shit spewed around. They aren't even knowledgeable enough to be critical.

I was looking at a chart, it showed something with the message "The less you actually know about something, the more you think you know about it."

I guess this author is a great example.

"New cross-platform titles are putting computers to the test because they’re designed for consoles that, in certain ways, are fundamentally better for games than an average PC."

The average PC is not a gaming PC, it's probably a cheap desktop or laptop from a retail outlet. If he had mentioned the average gaming PC, it would be laughable.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

True, but this makes it even more silly because if you're talking about gaming consoles and comparing them to PCs, why would you compare them to non-gaming PC? When I initially read it, I assumed he was referring the average gaming PC. People don't play these kinds of games (triple A) on average non-gaming PCs. The "average PC" typically has integrated graphics which will barely run these games, if at all. It's like the author is cherry-picking what to compare to make the console seem like the superior platform. ;)

Quote,

"Console ports have changed the expectations of PC gamers within just a few months. At the beginning of 2014 an owner of any mid-range rig with two gigabytes of RAM and a fast dual-core or mediocre quad was assured solid performance in most console ports.

A PC with 2G of RAM is a mid-range rig in 2014. This article opens my eyes.  My rig has 16G of RAM. It must be a Super computer.

My computer was classed as mid ranged by the computer shop that built it, cost a shitload less than desktops at nearby stores, and had dedicated graphics unlike them. And it cost $1100 for an; i5 4440, 16GB 1600MHz ddr3 ram, 1TB HDD, gtx 650ti oc boost (660) with 2GB vRam, wifi card and all in 1 card reader. The first and last dual core computer I had was my 2008 rig, which had a core 2 duo e8500, 4GB Ram (forgot the speed it was at-I overclocked it anyway), 250GB HDD and a Ati Raedon HD 4850 for the graphics. It still smokes all of the computers I see in shops and at current prices for the older components, it wouldn't cost that much to rebuild.

We do not sell cosmetics. We just blind animals."

Exactly. It just show hows BS the original article is. A PC with 2GB of RAM is said to be "mid range" in 2014!!! Yeah, maybe 7-8 years ago, it was the case. My friend bought a cheapy €300 laptop last year, which already has 4GB RAM. Even tablet has 2GB RAM now.

yeah because the shit hardware in the xbox can play games at 792p 30fps and for some reason we need a PC with quad SLI 980s to get a similar performance

Except that they have.

Games are mainly designed around capabilities of consoles as you know, when the 360/ps3 were getting old and limited, they didnt push graphics more because they wouldnt work on consoles.

Now with the ps4/xone, they can create better graphics than what they could with the previous consoles, which when ported to pc mean stronger hardware to run. Its really not that hard to understand.

Games that were PC exclusive are obviously not affected by this

You expect LinsuTechTips to actually speak sense instead of just spouting "LE PC MASTER RACE XDDD" over and over again?

Since games are developed for consoles then ported to PC yes the new consoles have improved games and put more demand on PCs. I should also not when they are saying average pc they don't mean average gaming pc, instead like one you can go into Best Buy and buy for $400-500 with intel HD4400 Graphics. So yes it is now testing those systems.

And this is another reason this article is so stupid. Why would you write an article comparing GAMING consoles to GAMING PCs and then say "the average [non gaming] PC can't handle these new games..."? Of course they can't, but almost nobody games on average non-gaming PC. They're not meant for gaming! This author was clearly cherry-picking to suit the argument. It's extremely misleading and dishonest. A $500 "regular" store-bought PC is VERY different from a purpose-built $500 gaming PC and he pretty much completely ignores that. It's like he thinks all PC gamers go out and buy store-bought pre-built "average" PCs to game on... lol

No that means is that we cannot push forwards with PC because the consoles are holding us back. Terrible console ports are not a reason for us to need better hardware.

Yeah you are right but as long as devs develop for console first, this is the sad truth, console hardware determines the graphic fidelity of games (again excepetions like star citizen apply but thats less than 1% of the games that are coming out)

Kind of, Its a lot more than 1%, there are games like Metro, Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein, Titanfall, Borderlands, Diablo 3, Metal Gear Rising, Alien Isolation, Mass Effect, Dark Souls 2 (control issues aside), Far Cry 3, Dead Space (to an extent), Shadow Of Mordor, etc etc etc

There are lots of multiplatform games that run and look better on PC, and work great across PC and console alike

The most common games at the moment are Ubisoft titles, and COD, and the occasional AAA that are poorly optimised, in general I honestly do not have that many issues with the majority of ports

Its just that the few BIG games that come along that are great sometimes get terrible PC ports
