Hmmm set benchmarks you say?

Interesting. I wonder if they beat the Nvidia ones by a wide margin. That'd be pretty awesome.

Will it work like that though? Or will they just wait until it's the 25th in most places.

I see your point though. It's midnight in India right now. I guess in 9 or 10 hours I'll have my answer. Might have to wait longer though.

I do not know anything, rather than the date and I have seen pictures and seen tweets that people are in the AMD Technological showcase 2014.

BTW google could not found anything, not even for Geo, India AMD words (place is Geo).

AMD site is blank. So it is rather interesting let say this way

Ask AMD. They're the ones who gave the formula. What's Nvidia's formula? I'll look it up after posting this, but finding the formula is a bit tricky on Google.

EDIT: Nvidia uses x2 as well. I just calculated it.

Single precision performance is calculated as 2 times the number of shaders multiplied by the base core clock speed. GTX 700 series. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_700_series

Generally FLOPs are calculated: f17df16790351871b7db475c5168c7f6.png where a normal processor can do 4 FLOPs per core, per clock (hz). But CPU's and GPU's are different after all.

I guess a GPU can generally process 2 FLOPs per core (shader).

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

AMD just stop being so childish with this game 24 thing. If you don't release a card that out performs a titan Z for $300, then you're going to be laughed at. You've hyped yourself up too much to possibly live up to it.

they released a gpu that out performs the titan z for 1/3 of titan z price now

Yay! I LOVE competition. It usually can set prices down on older, but not yet obsolete products, and brings better technology and advances. Can't wait!

I dunno, it doesn't really seem you can squeeze much more out of Hawaii without getting ludicrous heat output (we're talking 300W possibly), and such low returns on each node that you have to charge a fortune.

AMDs next gen based on current architectures will only get better with 20 nm.

As far as performance/watt, Nvidia have said the final word at 28nm with the GTX 970.

Ahahaha

Okay did I understand this correctly. The announcement was that they were launching the R9 285 and the W8100 in India?

No new products? All this hype for old products released in India?

If it weren't for my extremely low expectations I would have been so disappointed.

I have no idea of what is the situation of the dGPUs in India, neither who is the market leader there - but from AMD exciment it can be something great for them, after all it's the second most populated country in the world with 1,200 million people. Of course there is alot of poverty there, and their consumers don't match the buying-power of the consumers in developed countrys. But if this R9 285 is priced right, and if it's cheap enough to AMD, they can get ALOT of market share there.

It just depends on the perspective. The hype around new high end GPUs was created by us, and the media that needs views for income, not by AMD. In fact it was strict to AMDIndia.

Either way I think AMD success in the future isn't going to be bound to release high end cards at the same time of NVIDIA, or win the power efficiency crown... they don't need it. AMD is managing to be present everywhere when it comes to game development... and you have developers blogs that are really happy with AMD and GCN - all thanks to their open source perspective.

As long as they keep up with the performance, wich they obviously will, it's all good.

Anyone disappointed by the news was just fooling themselves into thinking this was going to be a big deal. AMD launched a goddamn APU from space, held a massive live event for the mid-range 285, yet this was just a little tweet from some Indian affiliate that got everyone all excited.

Some folks here seem to be genuinely upset, but AMD never really hyped this up the way actual releases have been executed in recent times. I'm sure when something big is rapidly approaching, we will here about it from AMD in a much less subtle way compared to a couple tweets.

AMD should just fire the entire marketing department to save some $$$ because it seems like their products are auto-hyped by the consumers and the click-bait sites (not totally serious, but the marketing does stink).

I'm not trying to hassle anyone that was pumped up for some good news (absolutely nothing wrong with that), but the signs pointing to a uneventful 25th of September were there :)
