Technically, downsampling is just squishing the image to simulate another resolution so it can't be used as an actual comparison to the real thing. You still have the same PPI as what your monitor ships with.

I know about downsampling since I was the one who introduced the guide for it on this forum.  :P

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/14001-how-to-run-higher-than-the-maximum-resolutions-on-your-display/

AHAH! lol. Yeah I forgot about that.. the PPI will be lower with downsampling. Okay gotcha! :p

Well at least there is one 4k monitor on the marker. Hopefully this will mean that we will get a 27" one priced lower around £500 then I will be happy.

May be something similar to the BenQ XL2420T's S Switch.

designed_xl2420t.jpg

The port it is using looks a lot like the 3.5mm headphone/speaker and microphone jack though so it may not me.

It could also be related to the 2 HMDI inputs since a single HMDI right now can only do 30Hz at 4K and you might need to use both HMDI inputs to get 60Hz.

NVIDIA right now does not support 2 monitor surround so it may be related to that as well. And the list goes on of possible uses.  :P

Depending on colour reproduction, I would consider this.

If it's a match for their ProArt series, which by the model number it may very well be, This would be very exciting.

Looks like it will also have a power brick.

But more importantly, Where's the VGA port? lol

On the ASUS Republic of Gamers Facebook page, it has been revealed that they are coming out with a 4K display of their own, the PQ321 True 4K UHD Monitor.

So far, they have revealed that it have a resolution of 3840x2160 with an aspect ration of 16:9. It is going to be on a 31.5" screen size with LED-backlit using an IGZO display.

At the back of the monitor you can see that it has 2 HMDI inputs and 1 DisplayPort input with a headphone and microphone pass-through. With that DisplayPort, I'm most certain it will be at 60Hz.

No pricing has been announced but if it will be within the $1000-$1500 price range, I might just consider getting one myself.

Found new info on this http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/asus_launches_pq321_monitor_with_3840_x_2160_igzo_display.html

The monitor will be capable of displaying 10-bit RGB, 1.07 BILLION Colours. So expect this thing to be expensive. I think the last asus monitor to do that was 1920x1200 24" and cost 600, and the only other one I think can do that are the high end dell IPS screens.

We're probably looking at closer to $2000 for that res, that size with that tech.

Unless ASUS decides to pull a Seiki and blow everyone's mind.

Pricing will make or break this product... although I do think 32" is too much for a gaming monitor, for me.

I wouldn't expect miracles, at 10-bit RGB it's professional grade, which means a lot of zeros.

Yeah, you're probably right, what I said still stands if they decide to make a more average consumer oriented product though (I'm using average very loosely here ).

Ehh... the large size sort of cancels out the increased PPI somewhat.  It's somewhere around 138 PPI which is still an increase over standard desktop monitors which are around 100-110, but nothing spectacular in terms of making AA obsolete.  Waiting on 3840x2160 replacing current 1080p-size monitors and 2560x1440-size monitors being replaced with 5120x2880 or something like that.

On Apple's MBP w/ retina, they replaced their 15.4" 1440x900 display with a 15.4" 2880x1800 display, so I would expect 3840x2160 to be replacing everything where 1080p currently sits (21.5"-27"), and so far results are disappointing... 32" is far too large for a desktop monitor IMO.  A 24" (16:10 3840x2400 hopefully :D) monitor would be much more appealing.

Glad to see DisplayPort though.  Don't know what's with the dual HDMI, would rather see 1x HDMI and 2x DisplayPort but oh well.

The PPI should now be high enough on this monitor that AA won't be needed anymore or at the very least, just single notch of AA.

In my opinion, AA isn't really need at 2560 x 1600, let alone 4K. Since it is using an IGZO display, I know that Sharp is doing better than it was before; it was previously going out of business and needed help from companies like Apple, Qualcomm and Samsung to survive. Also, I am so surprised by the affordability of this monitor, the Sharp varient mentioned on Linus' Stream cost like $5K. All in all, I hope the HDMI 1.4 issue that was prominent on the Seiki 4k budget TV doesn't persist in this monitor, on the Seiki TV it was running 4K at 30hz/30FPS.

As  much as I relish the idea, trying to game on this display would cripple my system. I think most of us aren't ready for something like this quite yet.

Well is Linus going to sell his bike now that asus has this monitor? its not like he plays games so slowing his gtx 590 down won't be a much of an issue. Now where is the computer that does 4k and star citizen @max settings  :P

No pricing has been announced that I've been able to find. And given the specs there is a very real chance that this won't be affordable at all.

Sorry, I thought that the writer of this thread said that it was between 1000$ - 1500$, not that he hoped it was. Sorry :P!
