Its so expensive! Guess I will have to wait for these 4k displays to become cheaper and popular before buying one of these.

Would you rather buy a Sony monitor for 25 grand? Compared to a price like that, 4000 really isn't that much.

Sony's 50 inch is 5K

I knew it would be pricey. The 10 bit colour gave it away.

Guys, this display is professional grade, it can display over a billion colours, not the paltry 16 million that all us peasants roll with.

And it's 4k, I'm not surprised at all at the price, for what it is, completely reasonable.

I bet if they just use an IPS panel they can release one at under 1500$

The panel they are using is an IGZO(or something like that) I think that was developed in partnership with Sharp to allow for greater pixel density. For them to do a new panel at consumer grade, I guarantee the first run would still be over 2 grand just to adsorb the R&D unless they were willing to eat the cost, which is unlikely. Even at a thousand+, that pricepoint still falls in professional to high pro-sumer bracket which means their market is going to be quite small.

Maybe in a couple years though when these higher resolutions are becoming the standard.

Oh, IPS panels can't handle a pixel density of 140ppi? iPhone - IPS panel - 326ppi

And that isn't even the highest it gets in smartphones.

I didn't say IPS couldn't handle it, I said they would have to make their own display because one doesn't exist yet, and that is expensive.

Apple can develop displays like that because everyone and their dog were buying iphones, there was a huge market for whatever they spat out. But a 4k $1000+ display has a comparatively TINY market. you're not going to have 12 year old girls through pensioners lining up around the block to buy an ASUS 4K IPS display.

You're going to have enthusiasts with disposable income and prosumers.

I hope I'm wrong I would love for Asus to come out and be like "to hell with profitability, we're just going to ROFL and PWN and produce all of the monitors you want"

But I doubt that's going to happen at this time, and that's why I reckon it will take a couple of years to bring something like that to market, the almighty dollar reigns supreme and whether or not something is technically possible has NOTHING to do with whether or not it is made.

On the ASUS Republic of Gamers Facebook page, it has been revealed that they are coming out with a 4K display of their own, the PQ321 True 4K UHD Monitor.

So far, they have revealed that it have a resolution of 3840x2160 with an aspect ration of 16:9. It is going to be on a 31.5" screen size with LED-backlit using an IGZO display.

At the back of the monitor you can see that it has 2 HMDI inputs and 1 DisplayPort input with a headphone and microphone pass-through. With that DisplayPort, I'm most certain it will be at 60Hz.

No pricing has been announced but if it will be within the $1000-$1500 price range, I might just consider getting one myself.

PLOT TWIST: It's $4 Grand.

Less than $3000,able to do 60hz, and IPS equals a buy from me. Doubt it will be that cheap though.

It's 16:9, not 16:10 so I'll pass on this.

LEL, even though it has a higher vertical resolution of any monitor. If there were monitors around with additional vertical pixels for 16:10 I would say your argument is valid. However there aren't...so it isn't.

Funny boy. The fact that there aren't any 16:10's is exactly the point. I'm saying that I'm not interested in 4K until someone makes a 16:10 aspect screen at 30 inches or less.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
