What's the Oldest Hardware in Your System right now?

I think the oldest thing in my PC is a hard drive from I think circa 2005. The oldest thing I own tech wise is probably a "built for windows 2000" pentium 3 compaq desktop.

It's actually the case. The Cooler Master Elite 360 is a mini-tower that can hold an ATX motherboard and had OK build quality considering it was a budget buy back in the day, but the layout is borked. There are no front fans in it and instead the front has unremovable drive cages and the power supply, which blocks graphics cards longer than 210mm (8.2"). Did I mention it can't fit a Hyper 212 EVO? Even though it's not that small.

 

But the case is sturdy enough and it's grown on me so i'm planning to mod the case to make it usable and perform well. Mostly because I don't want to spend more money on a new case and this thing can fit an ATX motherboard anyway.

Im guessing the DvD drive. it dosen't even have a brand. Next build i wont use one.

My mouse. I think it's a logitech m305. It's actually a great wireless mouse i can't tell the difference my wored mouse( granted it is a cheap $5 mouse). But other than that. My G3258

DVD-RW from 10+ years ago and until recently a ?? year old wireless g wifi card (maybe 15yo?). Now I'm in a place I can actually hardwire to the router. Since the card was 54Mbps and until recently I only got 7Mbps I never bothered upgrading it.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Well, it looks like the topic I originally replied in got combined into this one but the titles were different questions so I didn't actually answer this one.

 

The oldest piece of hardware in my main rig is my SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional sound card. I replaced it for like 15 minutes with a SoundBlaster ZX but the software is such trash for the newer cards that it sounded far worse despite the supposedly better hardware. I bought the X-Fi in 2008 because my SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS wasn't playing nice with Crysis.

 

Oldest hardware in my HTPC I think is the power supply, a Corsair TX650W. It's actually a couple of months older than the X-Fi. I really want to change it though. It's my HTPC so it needs to be quiet and the fan in the PSU is getting kinda loud. I mean, it's 8 years old (the PSU, the HTPC is only about 3) and has been used heavily for those 8 years so, yeah. No surprise.

Let's say you're rig/main/laptop fell apart of magically became unusable and you don't have the money to fix it for a while and someone walks up to and says "here take this until you fix your problem" how old or "weak" could it be and you still consider it worth using until then. Ex:(didn't actually happen) I guess I could get a way with using anything as long as I could watch Netflix okay use Google docs. So as low as a p4 with a low end card like a gt610/710

well.. i potentially have this list of computers to pick from (more or less organised in performance)

- main rig

- home server

- retired home server

- main laptop

- secondary laptop

- spare laptop

- hard drive maintenance rig

- an old HP workstation that's gotten very, very iffy

- an even older asus workstation thats the hilareously bad early 32-bit P4 chips

- my "zero cost computer" that works... but thats kinda it.. xD

- my dos gaming rig AKA "betsy", thats almost as old as myself :P

 

it'll be a while before i have such a critical failure, and i'd gladly go down the entire line of these. the very last one may be a problem soon-ish, because it barely supports IPv4, so once the US government finall stops being stubborn idiots we can finally move to the future, and that thing is forever devoid of internet access :P

I can't stand my laptop as it feels slow as hell compared to my main PC, and  that is an Alienware M18x R3 so errr not very slow for me. Might as well use my phone than a P4 lol

A core 2 duo and HD5970, enough to do something and play some games barely but also do browsing just fine.

I would use my windows tablet... Or my Android tablet. Or just take back the laptop that I lent to my mother.

 

Laptop is from 2009, dual core amd turion.

Android tablet is Amazon kindle fire HD (first gen) with Cyanogen on it.

Windows tablet is Dell Venue 8 Pro (5000 series), with Windows 10 on it. 

 

All of them can play netflix and youtube HD.

 

Or, you know, just go out and buy a new part for my broken PC, because I actually do have some money saved up for "emergencies" like this.

I had a core2duo paired with a 660 and 4gb of ram for a while. Still have the 660,but just upgrading my CPU and ram uped my gaming capabilities

If my machine died last night I have backups.  My desktop has a core i7 2600k, 16 gb ram, 1.5 tb of ssd storage, 12 tb of hd storage, and an r9 290.  My laptop has a core i7 6700HQ, 16 gb ram, 250 gb ssd, 1 tb hd, and a 4 gb gtx 960m.  If both of those machines died, I have a core2 quad q6600 with 8 GB RAM, 250 gb ssd, 2 tb hd, and an r7 260x that is off site.  I have the money to quickly replace my machine if needed (along with other belongings if there were a fire), so at most I would be down to bare minimum spec for 2 days tops...however, my home and work laptops are top priority in the event of a disaster, as I need the work laptop to continue working and the home laptop to continue churning out content for my website and my YouTube channel.  I also keep everything backed up to Microsoft OneDrive (I have 10 TB of space there) so I don't have to worry about losing data.

 

Edit:  Also have a machine I built to be a hackintosh (Pentium g2030, 128 gb ssd, GTX 750ti, 8 GB of RAM), and my work machine is a Macbook Pro (Core i7 2.2 GHz, 16 gb RAM, 256 GB PCIE SSD, Intel Iris Pro graphics).

Should a meteorite happen to strike my house and wipe out all my tech stuff, a Core 2 Duo with some sort of SSD would be my personal minimum for reasonable snappiness, and thankfully is rather cheap.

 

My written stuff and other less important stuff is already stored on Onedrive and can be accessed from almost anything with a cpu and display, though I'd like a low-cost solution to backing up my (expensive) anime collection. Wonder if a safe deposit box is low cost enough to hold my blu rays.

I have a few system that I could use if my main system broke, from i3 to Pentium D I guess could work. 

 

Pentium 4 or earlier, I don't think I can use, I'll rather just use my iPad for work and play in my PS4.
