Lian Li PC-Q19 - A new brushed aluminium Mini-ITX case

Source: Kitguru Guru3D Official Lian Li Website

PC-Q19-main.jpg

The PC-Q19 is a new Mini-ITX case from Lian Li That is mainly aimed at HTPC users and most likely those that wish to build their own Steam Box. The entire case is made out of aluminium and comes in two colour variants being silver and black. The case can house up to three 2.5″ drives and one 3.5″ drives, comes with a PCIe raiser for your graphics card allowing you to have a graphics card of up to 220mm, allows you to have the CPU cooler to be up to 85mm high, comes with a vertical stand, a 120mm Fan  on the side that has an air filter over it, can accommodate a SFX PSU that also has it's own dust cover and lastly has a power button along with 2x USB 3.0 ports at the front of the case. The case weighs 2.57kg. The dimmentions are (W) 160mm (H) 491mm (D) 286mm.

The case will be available from Caseking and Wave from the end of August for £99 in the UK and 149 USD at Newegg.

Personally I think that it is a very nice case and as long as you can get good enough components to fit in the case then it could make quite a sexy looking HTPC or even a Steam Box. Also the price is not too bad for an all aluminium case. I do hope that @LinusTech will get his hands on it to give us his impression :)

I love Lian Li's cases, such a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the case market.

Finally, an itx case that isn't massive and makes sense for being made for itx boards. Not going to build a monster in this because cramped air flow, but low power low heat components will work.

Uh Lian Li is finally on the magnetic dustfilter wagon. Very nice. They seem to finally understand the importance (or marketdemand) for proper dust filter solutions. Now if they would only make a mAtx version of my v700 with vertical PSU, I would be very happy.

I would love to see Lian Li make a steel line where they remake all their cases but in steel instead. I would rather steel then aluminium simply because ally stains and is softer. Also steel is cheaper.

NICE! I am really starting to like the idea of the Steambox (not that I didn't like it before) now that manufacturers are starting to roll out SFF cases.

It has a power button!? SOLD

No, just no. Aluminum is lighter, has vastly superior thermal performance, and though it's softer it will hold any computer just as well as steel. Lian Li doesn't build flimsy cases. These are sexy too. Also, aluminum does not stain unless you have a very salty diet, and steel rusts too over time.

It's not important to have a lighter case nor to have a better thermal conductor for a case. It's not a heatsink it just needs to hold your components. And what is wrong with choices. The more choices the better in my opinion. It wouldn't take anything away from the aluminum cases simply because they are both fairly similar metals and there probably wouldn't have to be any changes in the manufacturing process.

Spoken like a true casual. The case should be a good heatsink and easy to lug around. Overclockers swore by Lian Li for years in any water or air cooling situation. With LN2 steel makes sense because you want it to retain its cold longer.

Casual no. PCMasterRace all the way. I like my materials to be as strong as possible. I really don't care about it's weight at all. If I cared about weight I would buy a small ITX case not a full tower. And this case in the post wouldn't be much heavier if it was made from steel. It's already a pretty small case anyway.

It would be between 33 and 50% heavier.

And why do you care so much about strength? It has no bearing on performance.

Neither does having an aluminium chassis. I just really like steel you could say it's a fetish or I just have a problem. A really Hard problem.

Having an aluminum chassis does improve performance by improving cooling.

And how does it improve thermal performance. It isn't in any direct contact with any component that needs cooling. If it had thermal paste on the side panel with the CPU in direct contact with a side panel and heatsink fans I would understand what you mean but it isn't.

Motherboard to standoffs to case. Also, it better manages internal ambient temps. Sorry but you're dead wrong and overclockers have proved it relentlessly. It can make a 4C difference in an air cooling situation.

I doubt that claim by overclockers. 4c difference is a huge difference. Changing your case fans to Noctua only delivers a 2 at most degree difference. By changing the case material I hardly see that changing the internal case temperature. If you have the benchmarks as evidence however of the post that makes this claim I would love to see it. Also having a steel chassis helps with reducing vibrations however that is a hard thing to prove as no company makes a case but with two different types of materials to make a proper scientific answer. If aluminium was going to make any different it would be such a miniscule amount you would need some expensive equipment to see the difference. But I am no scientist so what do I know. If you google steel vs aluminum I didn't find anyone who saw any difference between the metals when using them in a case.

I'm stuck to just my phone right now, but go to any of the big overclocking websites and ask for performance cases. It'll be aluminum every time. It has a much better thermal conduction. Steel is less than half as good at allowing heat to flow.

As per steel dampening vibrations, nah. It's negligible if it even does.
