Tips to avoid razor burn?

vt3c

So I just shaved. I'm afraid, despite using shaving cream and doing it very well this time, I'm going to get razor burn. My face itches a little. I rinsed with cold water after shaving.

Anyone have any tips to avoid getting razor burn?

Fresh razor, don't cut against the hair if you are really afraid.

Well also your skin can be very sensitive. Give yourself a few times to toughen the skin up.

I just scrape it off with a dry razor, been doing it for years, never had any problems and I'm not even kidding. :)

This is a dumb question but... How bad do people get razor burn? I've never gotten it to the point where I'm actively irritated.

If you went against the grain of the hairs, then you may potentially get it, but if it was a wet shave it's fairly unlikely. A bit of lovely stinging aftershave and you'll be fine. Sometimes it can get a little itchy, but it will usually pass fairly quickly.

Your beard tends to grow fuller when you're older than 18. :P More hair = more strokes = razor burn more likely.

I've had my face get cuts and micro cuts for burn but it doesn't irritate me to the point that I complain.

• If you want to avoid irritating your skin, shave right after you get out of a warm shower. It will open your pores a soften your hair. If you can't do that, splash your face with warm water.

• If your facial hair is thick, use a beard trimmer first.

• Apply a thick layer of shaving cream. They make cream for sensitive skin.

• Use a fresh and sharp quality razer. Number of blades varies, but I used to use Schick Hydro (3 blades).

• Shave with the grain, going against only when necessary.

• Rinse with COLD water.

Just never apply cologne if you've cut your face...I'll never forget when I was young (less than 10) and wanted to be like Dad, so I decided to "shave" despite there being nothing there; cut myself and used what I thought was aftershave...big mistake. I can still remember me screaming from the pain.

I used to just shave with a razor on dry skin. No cream. Once I had enough facial hair to grow a proper beard I stopped doing that obviously. Now I just trim it a little every now and then.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Use a quality razor but considering I do this, I don't know how much help I could be.

Exactly what he said.

Any "man" who shaves anything other than his face, should get his ass kicked.

I said anything other than his face. If you can't grow good facial hair I can understand. But the whole shaving your chest and or gentlemans sausage fad needs to die. (trimming is one thing, shaved smooth is just unnatural)

Do not be cheap in terms of how much shaving cream you put on your face and do not pull a blade over bare skin.  Just don't.  I used to do that but recently I said enough is enough as I got tired of the bleeding and more.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S
