Windows 9 - on time - revamp charm bar and more (rumors)

GoodBytes

Mary Jo Foley from ZDnet has new information on Windows 9. More rumors suggest that the OS is on time, which is nothing much to say. This debate if it will be on tine or not is a bit silly. I don't get the rush that some people have, and rushing a product is never good. Also, you usually you know things that on time or not towards the end, as some features or bug fixes can be done faster than others. But regardless, good news.

As for for the Charm bar, rumors suggests that it will be still there, but only available and for Modern UI apps, and for desktop users, it may be, always showing in some fashion for easier mouse interaction. It will be in a modern UI app window. It won't show up on the desktop. While is something, to be fair, I saw no point in, on the desktop, beside Settings (which you can do Win+I for it, or get it from the start screen tile).

So, some good news.

What's more?

Native multiple virtual desktop, rumors suggests. Now I recall reading this rumor for a while, since Vista days, but it seams more trusted source is reporting this, this time around. Multiple-virtual desktop is something that Linux based OSs had for years, same for MacOS and Microsoft released a power toy back in XP, which was, like current alternative programs, trying to hack to make it, which the end results is that it never really worked super well, it's was OK. Now, if the rumor is true, it will be native, so the experience should be solid.

First up, as reported by Brad Sams at Neowin.net, Microsoft is moving toward adding virtual desktops to Threshold, the Windows release expected in the spring of 2015. As Sams noted, other operating systems, including Apple's OS X and Ubuntu, already support virtual desktops, which allow users to run and switch more easily between apps and groups of apps.

Virtual desktops will allow users to run their apps in different spaces which they will be able to view one at a time. I'm not clear whether the virtual desktops functionality will be clearly and readily available to all Threshold users or if Microsoft will make it more of a hidden feature discoverable by power users.

The other UI change coming to Threshold is the elimination of the Charms Bar, as first reported by Winbeta.org.

The Charms Bar — an overlay that provided access to search, sharing, the Start screen, hardware devices and settings — has been a controversial feature since it debuted in Windows 8.

Winbeta suggested that Microsoft might eliminate the Charms Bar for desktop users, not tablet users. But my sources say the Charms Bar will be going away completely for all desktop, laptop and tablet users with Threshold.

What is interesting, is that if the rumors are true that Windows 9 will be released in med/early 2015, Microsoft is doing a pretty darn good job at keeping things under wraps. Usually we see leak screen shots by now. Now, all we have is: "someone says".

the issue with this is microsoft wants to make more money by saying previous versions are not a good "experience" and saying the newest one will fix all that was wrong with the previously perfectly fine OS

I don't it doesn't properly or fully support most new hardware.

Oh and it needs another service pack already. I'm sick of downloading those 150+ updates over and over.

Can you give me an example of an unsupported piece of hardware?

I'm with you on the endless updates, I installed this OS a week ago and the hammer of Windows Update smites me still.

You could just install SP1 and disable updates. All the updates do is increase your odds of getting a blue screen from 0.1% to like 15%.

It doesn't propey support UEFI and everything that comes with it. Win7 is UEFI compatible but getting a proper win7 install with UEFI/got is no easy task.
