1. Off topic is SPECIFICALLY NOT ABOUT TECHNOLOGY (really getting tired of having to say that)

2. This is the internet, 40% of all internet traffic IS pornography.

3. Everything is appropriate when you say "off topic" that has been the motto of every single forum I've ever been on, that off topic is completely and totally unmoderated, because it's OFF TOPIC

 

Off topic means not about tech, that doesn't mean it's for Al Qaeda, of course that's an extreme example but the line must be drawn somewhere and it isn't down to us.

Off topic is supposed to be about off topic. Off topic is an umbrella term for anything, the fact that trashy threads are excluded doesn't make it any less off topic.

The exact opposite of what you s aid is true, that "only what we say is not ok is not allowed" leads to a hollhole of immature threads by 12 year old trolls, because we already have that problem.

A thread about your favorite porn is really crude content, it has no place here even in off topic. It doesn't have to violate CoC, the CoC is a guideline and is not all inclusive, it is up to the moderators judgement and it was the right call.

If that's the type of garbage content we're going to have and I can't filter it out of my recent topics feed, I might as well take my leave.

If your going to enforce rules you must do so fairly and consistently, that topic concerns an adult topic and is therefore or inappropriate for minors. Delete it, or return the other topic.

My point is, you can't have both "rules" and a blanket "its entirely up to the mod" statement. They basically cancel each other out. If it's ultimately up to the mod, how am I to know he/she didn't delete my thread because he/she simply didn't like it, or because he/she has something against me, even though it didn't actually violate the CoC?

What is in there will apply and every mod will act by it, but just because something isn't there doesn't mean that it's acceptable. That is where the "judgement" blanket clause comes in to play.

Intent is an intangible, and that's my point. I have seen 3 or 4 threads now get deleted, that did not in any violate the CoC, and this is my point. We have no way of know why they were deleted, and as such, must assume that it's "entirely up to the mod". If they can delete things that aren't in violation of the CoC, then I have no way of making a judgement call, I don't know how much more clear I can make that point. This is why Off Topic threads are generally not moderated with the exception of blatant personal attacks/harassment/racism.
