unluckily , my b550A-gaming board had issues with the x1 slots(not to mention the usb issue) , so looked around for another board ,to use ,, saw this being sold online ,  its kinda old by now. pretty sure its from China market , judging by the stickers on the box .

Not really a purchase but i got a few bits from my Uncle the other day when I went over there.  I won't share all the pics cause they're pretty generic looking but I'll snap the two things I'm keeping.

Generic internal 56k Modem PCI

A Trust 511 5.1 PCI Sound Card with a E3DX 6Channel chip

Spoiler

PXL_20240313_122159525_MP.thumb.jpg.9d530384b8fbe4c757b55bdb19c88ee5.jpg

A(nother 🙄 lol) Black Sata DVD Multi drive (I have quite a few of these kicking around now)

An IDE DVD Rom drive in Beige (might keep this cause of the colour but it won't be going in Frog)

Now the good stuff..

A StarTech.com PCI425USB 4 port add-in card

Spoiler

PXL_20240313_123125495_MP.thumb.jpg.60449fd659e6405056a896c38728a43d.jpg

and a wonderful Liteon 40x12x48 IDE CDRW.  So paired with the Hercules CDRW (with the weird card readers built in to it)  I can finally have two CD drives both the same colour in Frog 🙂

Spoiler

"Certified refurbished by Geek Squad" 870 Evo 1TB SSD for about $20 off. I need some laptop storage that doesn't need to be blazing fast but also needs to not be a spinning disk but I also need it to be reliable, I haven't had a Samsung SSD fail me yet. Now I can easily have my /home directory on a different drive entirely should I need to do a clean install or something nukes the boot drive.

Well I guess fuck you Best Buy.

Certified Refurbished my ass. At least it seems to be empty of data so either broken and returned before it was used and missed on inspection and never even wiped or it was broken after being wiped. Currently running data recovery on it to see if there was anything left on it then I'll check disk info on it to see how much it was read/written just out of curiosity before returning it. I'd rather have a working drive than my money back.

If you don't mind, what are your ports of call? Might be able to make suggestions for things to do. If it goes up to south central, Seward, Whittier, Anchorage etc, that's where I live. If it stays in SE I work down here just outside Juneau.

If it's Juneau/SE and you're planning on getting off the ship bring rain gear for sure.

not sure. these are all a couple of letters. also, I'm not sure why Vancouver cruises to Alaska are so cheap compared to Seattle. I should've just book the Canadian cruise and traveled 3 hours north across the border. sigh*

I'm not sure what actually happens in Glacier Bay. I know it has a summer only airport large enough for 737s, but that's in Gustavus. Of all the stops you have in AK, that's the one I'd get a flight seeing trip if possible. It's going to have the most to see there. Besides that, from what I've heard word of mouth it's kind of hiking and sea kayaking/boating to glaciers there.

Skagway is an old Klondike town. It's the port everyone from Seattle would hop off on to go into Canada. There's going to be tons of hiking, mining things to see, and on the way there you go past Comet Beach on the Lynn canal. That's our secondary escapeway in a fire. If I was at work, I'd be able to go out side and watch you sail by.

2-3% faster than the regular 14900K under "optimal conditions", whatever that means. Still not as fast in games as the 7800X3D though.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

got the new board installed and running on the system , couple of things to note .. the side  mounted power connectors are a pain to connect the atx 24 pin to , as you can see in the pic , the cable has to turn 90deg to plug into the motherboard , probably going to get one those 90deg connector , so the cables wont be bent like that .. and one of the two internal usb c headers cant be plugged in because of the gpu(xfx 6800xt), another 90deg connector time .. overall the board is good minus the two small issues i mentioned ..

Picked up this KOORUI monitor (left) to replace an aging and badly scratched acer monitor. so far i can say its so much nicer to have both monitors running at 1440p 144hz and both being non curved panels.

Managed to snag this for £150 (£30 a month for 5 months) getting a monitor arm for it tomorrow as its very very close to falling off my desk due to the position

been on a bit of a tech buying spree recently, as replaced joycons on my switch for new ones. got myself a Xiaomi redmi note 12 pro as a daily driver, and a set of anker soundcore Q30's, then also came in ownership of an honor X6a and also a samsung galaxy A15.

Alot of shiny new tech to play with not enough time in the day for it all XD

(sorry for the mess on my desk but i work on too many projects and have things everywhere lol)

Always wanted to try this game years ago, then totally forgot about it until the recent remake of the first one, today saw it for $4 and couldn't resist 😄, not only enjoying my first playthrough of the game but also enjoying the max settings, 500 fps average on my first run 🤣

I was running into some issues with my windows randomly getting stuck to my cursor. I picked up a new mouse, a Logitech MX Master 3S, to see if that was the issue. So far so good. I'm still getting used to the horizontal scroll; I like having it, but keep forgetting about it.

I got a pretty good deal on a WD Black SN770 to use as a second SSD for my laptop. And I got some more RAM that I haven't installed yet (and probably don't even need...).

I also got some Steam games on sale. I guess a weird mix of things, but I'd never played any of the Half-life games, and I lost access to my old Steam account which had Portal on it. I wanted to try the new version of Dwarf Fortress, and have been meaning to pick up RDR2 now that I have a computer that should be able to play it.
