Graphics card for a single 1440p monitor

I have a budget of £350 to spend on a new graphics card. I'm considering either the r9 290 or the GTX 780 but I am steering towards the r9 290 because it has extra memory and performs better in Battlefield 4. Benchmarks also show that Watch_dogs exceeds the 3gb memory buffer on the GTX 780 (ti) so I'm beginning to think that the extra 1gbs of VRAM on the AMD card is going to help the card run the more demanding games coming out in the future. Should I invest more and buy a GTX 780 (ti) or an r9 290x? Is my 1 year old corsair HX650 power-supply sufficient for either of the graphics cards or do I need to invest in a PSU upgrade aswell?

Your PSU will be fine for all the listed cards. I personally have a 780 and it runs like a champ.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

You can get two used 290s off eBay for less than the price of the 780 Ti.

Power supply is good, a 290 is a nice choice, as is the 780 IMO.

 

If your game of choice is BF4 and the 290 performs better, go for the 290.

You can get two used 290s off eBay for less than the price of the 780 Ti.

 

Then he will have to buy a new PSU.

The 780 is a hell of a card for 1080p, but with watch dogs at 1440p is not good. I would go for the 290x
