legit just got scammed on Facebook Marketplace. Like they say, if it’s too good to be true…

Listing was a pc with a 4090 for 800$… I thought I'd struck gold, since the seller said I couldn't use it because they’re “sick”. And they said they were out of state, so they needed to ship it to me. I was ecstatic when they said they “shipped” it. been a week haven’t gotten it. And they also blocked me and deleted the listing. I realized when they blocked me, so i have already filed reports, and now I am trying to get my money back. Sad day for me since i sold my pc to pay for it now im out of a pc and 400$...r/pcmasterrace - 1813 hi 5G8 2 Q 57 1 Unmute for sound BUILT Pc S9O0 Message sent to seller See conversation Review seller Alerts Message Share Saved Description Windows 11 Home 1 GEFORCE RTX

Anything that sounds too good to be true probably is. Only do in person trades for Facebook Marketplace where you can physically inspect the goods before exchanging cash. What payment method did you use to send the money, are you able to claim the money back through that? It's a rough lesson to learn but I hope you can at least get your money back.

SO MANY red flags.

A 4090 PC for a price below just what the GPU is worth AND the seller didn't want to physically give it (so it can be inspected)

Like, with all due respect, how were none of your red flags raised?

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

I suppose I am speaking while standing on the shoulders of giants because I've done purchases and family members who have also done Marketplace purchases before and let me tag along to show me some dos and don'ts (like checking integrity and functionality before paying) but like, the deal was, borderline insultingly, obviously a scam I'd argue.

I just checked ebay and the prices of 4090s here is about double what the seller asked. Granted, didn't really look up for what they sold.

Anyway, OP this was a very obvious scam. I hope you paid through a method where you can charge back (i.e. the PayPal professional thing and NOT the friends&family option). For the future, when you see something like this and think you have struck gold: ask the obvious question. Like was the seller aware for how much a 4090 goes second-hand? And if so, why did they not sell that separately?

Unless a very weird technical issue comes up or it is literally a spouse/ex that just wants to get rid of it to spite someone, it is a scam. Sob stories or people needing money FAST (those who need money fast usually also need a lot, so why would they sell so much under value AND ship instead of local?) are scams.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Now you have learned and will hopefully not make this mistake again. You don't have the same buyer protection as Ebay or Amazon on these classified sites, so risk is extremely high and are 999,999 times out of 1,000,000 not worth it.

Because of being scammed with marketplace, I've now moved to pay bit more for security. Largest marketplace here offers extra security for both parties. 24h from receiving item to either accept or deny and if nothing is answered, seller gets paid anyway. If denied, there process for discussing solutions. The system might still have issues that aren't listed on help pages, like buyer returns wrong item (the common return scam).

You're not getting it back. Cashapp has no protection. The reports are just going to be filed away.

As others said this was totally on you. This should have raised every red flag.
