A few years back I wanted to upgrade my NAS with 8TB SSDs. At that time the price was 300€ per SSD and I was really close to buying, but didn't want to shell out the 1,200 for the four of them. Shortly after prices increased a bit (350 - 400) now they are at 900 per SSD 😞 (If you can even get them at all)

Yep never know what will happen.  I mean I've spent/sold like 2 BTC back in like 2013-2014 ish.  At its peak that would have been $250k.  I've been back in since about 2017 and while I'm not that well off it's been going up pretty good.

Mainly regards not keeping computers I had decades ago and in good condition. The first computer that was really mine all I have left is the motherboard.

More recently .. I wish I had obtained one of those setups for having a "dual system".  You know like an ATX main system and Min ITX system in one box.  I though virtualization would be enough.  But now we have anti-cheat runing that for gaming.

I sold my 2070 Super a week before the 3080 came out. Luckily I sold it for MSRP. But it took a month to get one, and in the meanitime after I didn't get one day one, I bought a RX 580 (brand new from Microcenter) that artifacted, then I got a 5700 XT, also brand new, and literally the last day of the return policy, I returned it, then came back to Microcenter at like 4AM to get in line for a POSSIBLE 30 series drop.  Got 1 of only 2 3080's, a +$50 MSRP card.

After that, I learned to keep my GPU until I have the next series. LOL.

Now. I'll do that with everything. Just in case.

Whenever I change main systems, I always keep the old one too so there's always a backup in case anything goes wrong. By the time I think about getting rid of stuff it has usually gotten so old to not be worth the effort.

All the tech I bought was well-researched and reasoned, so I can't think of a single buy that was bad.

My only regret is that last summer I was eyeing doubling my RAM, it was 60 bucks and I was still thinking "I could wait a bit more" for it to drop in price. 😄

Now it's triple.

First thing I do is sell to justify the cost.  Going from a 3080 10GB to 4090GB was a net cost of right around $1000.  Plus, I mined like $2k on the 3080 (figured if it ever became profitable again the 4090 would do even better).  Today this feels like an amazing deal as I'll be stuck on this card for likely 3 (or more) generations.

I was just starting to think about going to either 96GB or 128GB.  Not with these prices!

2 decisions that I regret, that led to me creating this account:

  1. Bought a used RX 580 4GB for a whopping MYR 1300 (about $300) during the 2021 GPUcalypse. It kept blackscreening and in the end I sold it for parts for a mere MYR 50 (about $12).
  2. Then I bought a used RX 5600 XT for MYR 700. That too blackscreened a lot (but in a different way than the RX 580). Also sold it off for parts, this time for MYR 100, so a bit less of a loss.

Afterwards, I bought a used GTX 1070, used RTX 2060 and then a brand new at the time RTX 4060Ti. None of them crashed, just wanted to buy new for GPU compute.

i built a pc last summer and got a free set of 16gb ddr5 from a newegg bundle i built it with. I put off buying 32gb and now i am stuck on 16gb for a while.
if it comes to it, i might try buying bare boards and ram chips and soldering them down at work. I've done similar work so it shouldnt be too hard

Starting to regret it as well.

I was thinking about waiting for AM6... But considering how things are going and OpenAII buying up everything until 2029 with imaginary money for imaginary datacenters, I might just be fcked even if I wait until AM6.
