Why the Hype for Corsair RGB Keyboards?

Marvzl1357

Hullo,

What's with the hype for Corsair's RGB keyboards?

I mean, It's a keyboard, with LED's. Big whoop.

I don't know, I might be cynical but I don't really care about having 16.8 million colours being displayable on my keyboard. I'd prefer having just a backlight that suits the keyboard, like the Quickfire Rapi-I or something.

If anything, I'm hoping that the RGB keyboards would result in lower prices for the K70 and other non-RGB keyboards.

So, can someone enlighten me as to why one should be excited about RGB Keyboards?

Home is where the heart my desktop is.

Part of it is matching. If your build is green, and your peripherals are red, blue, and white... You're going to look uncoordinated.

But if you can change the color to whatever you want, then you can have all matching, and it will look better.

It's all aesthetics.

Because its a fully programmable Cherry MX RGB keyboard, something that no other keyboard in the world has. You can do anything with the backlighting, and individually set a colour for each key, or do an infinite amount of lighting effects. It is also one of the most well built keyboards on the market. If you are just using it at home then you don't really need this, but some people like to show off and have the best components possible. Also LAN parties, expos, etc...

It's also nice to be able to change your keyboard's lighting colour whenever you want :)

Actually, that's a pretty good reason, and I can actually think of people I know who would want that, but not me :P

But the way it seemed when it was first announced is that everyone and their pet dolphin should be excited about it

Its a very advanced feat of engineering :) I just have the regular K95 because the white backlight suits my build more. I don't see the need for RGB (plus white with RGB looks rly bad) but my friend really wants the RGB so that he can have special lighting effects, custom colours, and swag.

Also the way the leds are located it will supposedly increase their lifetime, so no more dead leds from ESD.

I call bs on all that. Corsair, you know what would help having a case on the keyboard.

Imagine that, reports on dead leds from multiple users... if that happens, this keyboard would be even more useless to me.

I dunno, to each his own I suppose.

IMO, odds are you're gonna pick one color and stick to it anyways, so I'd just buy the color I want in the first place that matches my setup.

Personally I'm excited for the ability to program my own lightning modes. I know it's hardware to be excited about but the software going into this keyboard is actually pretty advanced. Also I like changing colors often. I change my Ducky's spacebar color pretty often.

I'm personally excited for it because I love colors and I love Corsair.

I'm with you man. I got my "pretty lights" fix when I was a kid, with those shoes that flashed when you stamped the heel. I'd rather have some doubleshot or engraved keycaps with a classy typeface.

I believe there are SMD diodes in the switch, or maybe next to? I dont know I would have to see on to really tell you farther. But I don know there bad the switch clear so light could pass through. That mods has been around at least a year or more as i have clear tops I plan to use in my next keyboard build. They were third party though as cherry ones prior to were very very limited and super rare.

you and I think alike, though my next board will be fully backlight with translucent black caps. I have a very good its going to turn out damn amazing though.

My favorite caps are PBT and they must be at least dyesub if not doubleshot.

This.

Which is why this keyboard is not that appealing to me... I get it, it can have a whole show, but not for me I guess.

What if you have different game profiles and have it change color for them?

Yea, I would pick a color I liked and never change it, so I may as well just pick that color in the first place lul

I don't, which is why is not that appealing to me, to each its own I guess. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing flashy pimped builds(I'm in love with the Sabranco), but still for me I prefer performance over good looking. This keyboard doesn't add anything to my daily use, so like I said is pretty much useless to me.

But, I see the point of this keyboard, I respect those who will buy it, it's your money after all.  :)

Supposedly it's going to use electronic billboard microcontrollers to control the LEDs, so anything you could program into a billboard you could program into the RGB
