Help me out are you with me.

Are you saying that .exe is pronounced EXCEE.  EX CEE?

I just say E.X.E. file.  Pronouncing each letter.

But if this is all you have to focus on this holiday season, kudos to you!  Life is good!

Btw, who the hell is Dan?

No, I was actually hoping that this was infact your biggest worry!  I've got a teen daughter, this could upset her entire world!  Shit is fragile!

When I heard that conversation, I sympathized with Dan. I've always said .ini as "in-ee".

Although I hadn't heard 'excee" before, I don't think it wouldn't have really thrown me off, or made me question it. And while I don't think I've ever had to say it out loud, I've definitely called .png files "pings" in my head lol.

Well, he is English and thus we must take his pronunciation as gospel 🤣

I consider him the Kiff to Linus' Brannigan. He's got the resignated sigh spot on.

In Danish we pronounce it ex-e, as in execute

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

Although I must take exception to his pronunciation of schedule... but that's another issue haha. (although I know he's far from alone in that one)

E X E, separate letters, pronounced separately. Is how I would pronounce it in English.

Though in French I would just say "point ex" while disregarding the last e.

It's just how some people pronounce it.

The pronunciation in the OP title actually does show up when you say it rapidly - at least it does for me.

I and everyone I know started pronouncing it exee within maybe a year of getting used to DOS, which in my case started when making the switch from the Commodore, in the late 1980s. It seems weird to spend the extra time to pronounce each letter. "Dot Eye En Eye" is even worse. I truly think the WAN show is the first time I've ever heard anyone spell that out, except maybe on tech support where they have to assume you don't know what you're talking about. I certainly have never said it except to clarify to someone unfamiliar with computers.

I usually say Ex-Ee, I thought that was common among computer people. I was quite surprised that Linus took issue with any of Dan's pronunciations. I thought it was weird that he thought it was weird.

I work in an IT department of almost 100 people and I've never once heard it pronounced that way.  I'm not saying it's wrong, though.

The only real differences I hear is when people talk about ini files.  Some say "eye-en-eye" and some say "innie".
