Internet went out over night, my disappointment is immeasurable. If the blizzard tomore does it again the sadness will be real.

Awesome to see the team moved up a spot on the charts.  Hopefully my old GTX1080 makes it through the event.  I had retired it last summer but brought it back for one last kick in points.  It turned in almost nothing yesterday as it faulted out and crashed my pc 3 times.  Might get to add a post to one of the dead hardware threads.  Gonna have to lean on the other two cards I'm folding with to try and stay in the top part of the list.

sometimes some f@h WUs are just really hard on hardware. My 3060Ti crashed out of nowhere on one specific WU despite that undervolt being rock solid for literal months playing games or rendering/simulating

F@H and BOINC do that, "You think your OC/UV is stable? Hah think again". I just load stock when doing F@H/BOINC, just for the safety/hassle-free.

I would too if most of my computers weren't complete hot boxes. I'd drop my power limit by 20% and call it a day. Miss the days when gpus topped out around 200W

Have you checked your actual power draw? I often find F@H doesn't load the GPU that much and power can be quite low, actual usage might be well below 20% down already?

oh yes, I was just using that as an example

my nvidia gpus tend to run ~60% of their max power draw so there's not really any point tweaking the PL and stuff but the amd ones tend to run closer to their limits so I will drop it as much as the software will allow.

Yep, was just be curious if it were even possible to set a much lower target than -20%. Not looked at the minimum/maximum allowed for my 3060 Ti's in ages, I think since it's so low the only option really is UV.

 

I should be folding on my 3060 TI's and 6800XT but... I'm not

41% on my evga, 50% on an FE. Those numbers roughly point to a minimum tgp of ~100W. Wonder what they tweaked to get GA104M to run at sub 100W

 

and as much as I'd like to also fold on my CPUs the power bill this month is already too high XD

Don't, it's not worth it, CPU folding is horribly bad. I'm just not paying for the power and they aren't in my home. I do it just to find out how much you need to be equivalent to a particular GPU. You end up using between 6kw and 9kw just to match a middle to high end GPU using only 150W-250W, as you can see super not good.

I recall one of the F@H guys saying that there are certain things that only run on CPUs, so they appreciate CPU folding as well.

There are or were yes, I'm not sure that is still the case. Long time ago they said a lot of the verification work is CPU only but they were also working on making that able to be run on GPU as well. This was many many years ago so pressing my memory very hard.

 

Personally I just find it entertaining to CPU fold on a bunch of servers and that is itself more than enough for me. They also aren't getting used for anything else so why not, well maybe wasting power I guess...

As far as I know A8, and a9 work is CPU only? Almost 1.4 million work units CPU only let's gooooo https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats

The cold snap hitting us has me considering bringing the Tesla P40 I have back online. An extra 250W might help with the temperature at night as this apartment has terrible insulation  only question is what computer to chuck it in and how to cool it since the server that used to house it no longer exists.

That's OK. I already got sliced on the teams list about a week ago. The scar feels slightly more permanent there.
