How do you pronounce GIF?

Do you pronounce it with a hard "g" sound like "good," or with a soft "g" sound like "giraffe?"

You guys have been very helpful in helping me convince my friend it's pronounced "jif." Unfortunately he's stubborn and his only argument he has is that "most of the internet things it's 'gif.'"  My strawpoll says otherwise. He has no arguments now and won't give up. He says that "it's gif(like girl) because English" but I argue that acronyms are pronounced however one feels. And I've never seen/heard of an "official" acronym pronunciation guide. People don't pronounce .PNG "pung(or whatever)." .PNG is pronounced how the creator intended it to be pronounced and that's how I feel GIF should be. Like "JIF." Thanks peeps!

Like the peanut butter, but I don't give a flying cat butt what the creator says, that isn't how the English language works. I pronounce it as "gif", not "jif". The "official" way sounds dumb and improper. It has no barring in the English language. It's as absurd as "cat" being pronounced as "kait" because someone felt like being special snowflake, doesn't work that way and no amount of "because I say so" is going to suddenly change the rules of English.

I pronounce it as gif. The g is graphics which is a hard g.
