I'm looking to break into the top 100 by the end of the event. Can you all do me a favor and look between your couch cushions and under the seats in your vehicle and find me some spare PPD? I'll be coming around to pick up donations soon.

Thanks Ubiquiti! I thought the switch flex might be the 10 gig one Jake used in a video a while back but I think that is specifically called the flex 10 gig so maybe not. Either way, I love the commitment from the sponsors as well as the participants. I'm gonna dedicate my next 24 hrs of folding to @GOTSpectrum 's step mom because F!#K cancer. Finish strong everyone.

Underground burial is pretty easy in most places to run line to such a thing, so you wouldn't need the "solar generator" to make use of the panels.  I did this behind my house up on the hill so it gets better sun than the house does.

It's more so I don't have to go through the whole rigmarole of pulling electrical permits and having it tied in "properly". I live in a townhouse anyway, so I've only got so much yard to begin with.

(Plus I don't have a generator. Even though my service is very reliable, probably more than 5 nines, it's nice to have the backup option.)

More than 5 nines...

So... One sec let me do the math... Carry the one, multiply by the cosmological constant, divide by the speed of light, calculate the Pythagorean theorem, ahh yess here we are. That's...

Six nines baby... Noice

Seriously, I've lost power for a total of less than 30 seconds over the course of the last year.

That's the beauty of having a local municipal light plant instead of a faceless megacorp. My old place was under one of the big utilities, which did zero preventive maintenance. I lost power any time there was a stiff breeze there. (If only Jackery/Ecoflow boxes existed back then...)

Well good news for people ranked 23rd and below. I'm moving my cards back to ExtremeHW for our monthly foldathon. So take the opportunity to pass me by!

It's my first time folding with y'all and I'd like to go straight to the origamist badge. So I'll swap a few cards back over when I get back from vacation on Monday. Depending on how far I slide down the board I might dig up some extra firepower to claw my way back up.

30s for the last year means you lost power at least once. Power might be expensive over here, but the last power out that i remember was before the pandemic. And i would have noticed, because my computer was folding most of that time and it never shut down.

Yeah, a couple blips just long enough for the microwave and oven to forget what time it is.

That's why I still run my tech on a UPS.

I am just a little shocked that on so many places on this planet power outages seem to just be normal, even these short ones.

I had none of these effects since years, although the last power out was over an hour. The middle voltage lines over here are in a ring circuit and one of the wires got damaged and triggered a little too many circuit breakers. It only took that long because it was in the middle of the night and the only available technician was on another site at that moment.

Here in Nashville My area in particular is fed by 2 Substaions and will switch if one goes out it’s Funny as i can tell which one im running off of by voltage alone the MAIN substation i get 124-125v the SECONDARY substation i get between 116-119V incoming.  I have lost power for all of 5-10 minutes over the last 3 years except the one time the transformer outside my neighborhood went up in smoke its funny how they dont like lightning…

oh and the 1 hr scheduled outage that was scheduled for 6 but only took 1 hr to replace a transformer outside of my unit but i don't count that as they scheduled it 30 days ahead of time.

Transformer lightning strikes are extra loud!  Had it happen outside my house as a kid...had sparks shoot out of every outlet in the house into the air when it happened...quite an "interesting" sight for a small kid.  Only lost a couple small things since we always had the habit of unplugging everything in the house before major storms in case a tree fell on a line to cause a surge to us, etc.

Yeah I didn’t loose any thing to my knowledge even though I didn’t unplug but do have a 2x surge protector circuit breakers. And all electronics are on Anker or Belkin (Mostly belkin at that time) surge protectors or APC UPS’s (or cyber power as well at that time)

More power is ALWAYS an option, although getting more project 12266 and 12424 also helps:

image.thumb.png.eeeb26e199ab35ad474fa0fdb2695a7d.png

Shame they're hogging all the Ada Lovelace silicon for AI, that Turing Quadro 6000 is pulling almost as much power at 6.3M PPD as the 4090 does 19.1M PPD for that project.

So far all of my hardware is holding up well, which is an improvement over the last couple years. Unfortunately I'm having a software issue on my main folding machine, so my RTX 2070 Super and GTX 1080 are sitting idle right now. The machine blue screened yesterday morning, and now it's acting strange. I was having issues getting Forza Horizon to work online, and a couple other things would crash. For some reason Folding@home doesn't want to run anymore. FAHControl will open, but I can't get F@h itself to launch, so nothing is happening.

Right now I've got 5 other GPUs running (GT 1030, RTX 2070, Quadro P4000 (x2), Quadro P620) as well as one CPU (Core i5-6600). I definitely won't be very high up in the ranks this year, but I'm just glad that none of my hardware has failed like I experienced last year.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Polaris: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASRock X79 Extreme6, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB Crucial MX500, 750W Corsair RM750, Antec SX635, Windows 10 Pro

FAHControl will open, but I can't get F@h itself to launch, so nothing is happening.

uh oh.  sounds like a pain.  im tempted to shut some of my stuff off to save energy...but at least till the end of november i will stay the course...will see what happens but im about to hit a new record high energy usage wise here of ~1,750kwh where my last record was just shy of 1700 during the covid surge
