★Whats your Favorite Fighter Jet?★

F-14 Tomcat. I've been a plane/jet buff since I was a little kid and even got my pilot's license while still in high school. the F14 has always been my favorite.

i really like the F 18 super hornet

But, after working 2 years on the F16C/D as a weapon load crew, I have grown to love it more.

Smell of the JFS from every aircraft startup (the smell of jet fuel in the morning grows on you)

Every chaff/flare module loaded during turnround

Every AIM 9M loaded for flight.

Trying to count the number of rings on the Jet's exhaust during takeoff on night launches

Old plane, but still beast in my book.

Looking at 12 jets lined up wing to wing on the flight line. Best time of my life so far.

SR-71 is the most advanced plane ever produced (for its time) IMO. Just proves what a genius Kelly Johnson was.

According to military terminology, it's a ground attack plane. But for the purposes of this thread, that's nitpicking.

My favorite has to be the F-16 because that is what my dflew in the Air National Guard. I also like the A-10 because that is what my local fighter wing has (122nd Fighter Wing).

Its main role is anti tank as the front mounted chain gun can rip through most Armour. Also doubles for CAS.

So?

A Nimrod ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Siddeley_Nimrod ) carries weapons (could even be fitted with sidewinder missiles) and has jet engines but by no stretch of the imagination could it be said to be a fighter.

Got to go for the F20 Tigershark

300px-F-20_flying.jpg.  Yes an F-22/35 will run rings around it but you could get 20 of these for the cost of one F-22/35.

If you are not the US spending some horrendous amount on 'defense' then an F-22/35 is out of your range but F20s (and support) ...

Netherlands and there politics stupidness

The government made its decision to go ahead with the purchase of the controverial JSF fighters last September.

They will replace the ageing fleet of F-16s.

The decision brought to an end 18 years of political dithering.

The Netherlands will buy 37 JSF jets to keep the cost within the €4.5bn special budget. They will cost an additional €270m a year to keep in the air.

guess what chickenbutt we still dont have them

yeah the pilots were told that if they encountered a SAM launch just switch on the afterburners and outrun it lol!

Definitely way ahead of its time, its much better than the U2 IMHO.

Also as a fighter jet the Mirage 2000 because it looks completely retarded:

PAK FA is a real plane though.

If the CFA-44 was real... You could take out a whole armor battalion or a 20 plane squadron with ease...

I really liked the early prototype of the Sukhoi T-50.

The last prototype reminds me a lot of the YF-23.

In no particular order...

MIG-29 - This thing was doing crazy maneuvers (cobra) long before the F-22 was even a concept and could still probably give the Raptor a run for it's money.

mikoyan-mig-29-11392-1680x1050.jpg

F-15B ACTIVE/ STOL/ MTD - Highly advanced and experimental F-15 with canards and thrust-vectoring. As if the F-15 wasn't cool enough...

F-15B_ACTIVE_with_Thrust_Vectoring_Nozzl

F-15B_C-1984-6457.jpg

P-38 Lightning - One of the fastest prop-driven planes ever made boasting two 1600hp turbocharged Allison V12 engines.

p38.jpg

P-51 Mustang - The pinnacle of piston-engine propeller driven fighters in WWII

P51-d_mustang_472216_arp.jpg

F-35 JSF - Does it all. Stealth, VTOL and STOL, Super-sonic and super-cruise capable (going super-sonic without the using afterburners).

As a huge aviation buff, I don't have a particular favorite, but these stand out in my mind as some of the greatest for various reasons.
