★Whats your Favorite Fighter Jet?★

My dad worked on the engines of these for years, amazing piece of technology.

Goddamn that thing is sexy, I live right next to an RAF base that have around 20 of those in FGR4 form.

But my favourite aircraft is this sexy piece of machinery that I will someday own, not sure when but I have set my mind on it.

The F-35B, because it can take off without moving forward and it can hover.

I also really like the F-22 raptor and it reminds me of the Lamborghini Aventador.

The Harrier did it first mate :P and also the F-35 is turning into a catastrophe, the thing fully loaded up can't even take of vertically and from the looks of it the price is starting to spiral out of control.

It looks sweet but I'm not sure about it, the RAF is supposed to be getting quite a few but if I was in charge I wouldn't have bothered, I would have put that money into upgrading and redeveloping the Eurofighters but that's just me lol

Found this pic. Pretty much sums up the F-35. lol

I guess the down-fall of the F-35 is that they are trying to make it do everything. Unfortunately there must be compromises and yes, it is turning out to be a hugely expensive Edsel... I like it because of what it represents for the future and what is possible. Yes, the Harrier was the first VTOL fighter, but the Harrier cannot go super-sonic, nor is it stealthy.

But she got the job done and kicked ass while doing it for around 35 years, the US are still using them to this day though I think the AV-8B's days are numbered :)

Oh don't get me wrong, the Harrier is still very capable and quite an impressive piece of machinery - especially considering how long ago it was developed. It certainly gets an honorable mention on my list. ;)

Those are based off the popular Idol Master series. Which is owned by Namco I think.... don't quote me on that.

In no particular order...

MIG-29 - This thing was doing crazy maneuvers (cobra) long before the F-22 was even a concept and could still probably give the Raptor a run for it's money.

F-15B ACTIVE/ STOL/ MTD - Highly advanced and experimental F-15 with canards and thrust-vectoring. As if the F-15 wasn't cool enough...

P-38 Lightning - One of the fastest prop-driven planes ever made boasting two 1600hp turbocharged Allison V12 engines.

P-51 Mustang - The pinnacle of piston-engine propeller driven fighters in WWII

F-35 JSF - Does it all. Stealth, VTOL and STOL, Super-sonic and super-cruise capable (going super-sonic without the using afterburners).

As a huge aviation buff, I don't have a particular favorite, but these stand out in my mind as some of the greatest for various reasons.

Mig-29 give the F-22 a run for its money? You do realise that is like saying F-16 can give any trouble to the F-22?

Oh yes I also love the ACTIVE.

P.38? Not as fast as Do-335. no I don't want to hear about exclusivity shush

P-51? Overhyped by the US, I'd prefer a Fw-190D.

The thing I love most about the F-35 is the sheer performance and usefulness of its AESA radar. Oh, and don't forget the EOTS and the complete sensor fusion. I think people underestimate those systems' power in terms of force multiplication.

The Harrier did it first mate :P and also the F-35 is turning into a catastrophe, the thing fully loaded up can't even take of vertically and from the looks of it the price is starting to spiral out of control.

A catastrophe? Where are you getting your information from? Russia Today? :D There may be financial increases and further tests to be conducted, but the plane is close to being finished, especially in the USAF version.

In a pure dog-fight, I'd bet the MIG-29 could hold it's own quite well, considering it's age.

I could care less about all the advanced guided missiles and junk. That's all very boring to me. But two fighters going head to head in a non-missile dog-fight, that I find much more interesting. I realize modern warfare isn't like that anymore, but I don't care. When it comes to fighters, I'm more interested in an aircraft's maneuvering capabilities in a dog-fight rather than what radar or "target something 50 miles away and fire" systems it has.

The P-38 I said was ONE of the fastest, not THE fastest. ;) And it's one of my favorite from WWII.

The P-51 may be well-known, but I still love it and it was still a very capable fighter in it's day. If you want to talk about over-hyped and overly-sensationalized fighters, look at the Spitfire. The Hurricane had more kills and played a much more pivotal roll in terms of air superiority during WWII, but you never hear about the Hurricane. The spitfire, as cool as it looks, had it's downfalls and short-comings in combat that most don't know about. ;)

One of the main reason behind that aircraft was the VTOL which the fat fucker can't even manage when fully loaded, also the costs are actually increasing by a fair old whack and also the delays are really taking the piss. I've come across a few news articles regarding the F-35.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/10838453/Britain-should-consider-scrapping-F-35-stealth-fighter.html

http://rt.com/usa/154956-stealth-jet-f35-growler/

Give me some time I could probably find a lot more, don't get me wrong because I like the F-35 but I don't think it is going to be nowhere near as good as they are saying or hoping it is going to be and like I said, if I was in charge here in the UK or Australia I would rather upgrade the Eurofighters (UK) or the F/A/18 Hornets (Aus). Since there have been huge cuts in spending, I believe it would have been wiser to upgrade already existing aircraft that are already effective.

The thing that gets me about the F22/35s and that ilk of highly capable but highly costly fighters is WHO are they designed to fight?  Germany is now part of the "good guys club" modern wars seem to be assymetric. What good is an all singing and dancing fighter against militants/terrorists/freedom fighters that look act and are (mostly) just the local population?

C.F. the recent wars (or rather military engagments authorized by congress) in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iraq could be said to have had a fighter v fighter battle (lasted all of two days ) but the insurrgents in Afghanistan have NO air force at all.  All that is required by the allies are a few "bomb trucks" and some ground attack/recconisance aircraft

Yep, they are bad ass, designed to be able to get the pilot home with just one wing.

The gun runs are sweet when they fire the bullets usually hit just before you hear them firing.

A cool feature (I think at least) of the A-10 is that the engines igniters have to be fired when the guns operate because the gases that come out of the barrels have no oxygen would cause the engines to flame out without that feature.

The aircraft is designed to fly with one engine, one tail, one elevator, and half of one wing missing

also

if hydraulic power is lost, a combination of gravity and wind resistance can open and lock the landing gear in place

but this one is the best

the pilot could switch between two rates of fire: 2,100 or 4,200 rounds per minute; this was changed to a fixed rate of 3,900 rounds per minute

because who wants to fire slowly
