Radeon flagship is back, this summer, in the form of a graphics card

brownninja97

Get the music. trust me, it is needed for this article.

Looks like the new flagship is coming, sadly this flagship speaks in a language that i dont understand, technology language, not standard language, hell not even advanced, this is like god tier crap going on. Anyways onto the article hope you enjoy.

So first of all its the theory stuff

So mr videocardz was having a chat(most likely a truxican standoff) with mr amd employee said the 290x is getting replaced. Remember the 7970ghz edition, wellll. The same sort of thing should happen again and along with that they will butcher the naming schemes, also there are rumors of  extra gpus being added, by adding a "5" suffix to the gpu names, eg 275 which could bring back the tahiti le card.

aww yeah quotes n sh**

Amd have put up all of these things and its too much for me to handle, but it looks like this HBM so and so is great

2009684.jpg

Ok i give up i have no idea what this means, but it must be an upgrade. Clever people do your thing.

2009685.jpg

Looks like the watts is cut down by 1/3 which is nice, no more devil 13s with 4x8pins, only 3 8 pins now.

2009686.jpg

Its an improvement im not complaining.

So, does anyone know when ticket sales for the hype train starts? I want to make sure I get a window seat. I love watching the GPU market get flipped on its head with each flagship release. Fingers crossed for $600 GTX 780 TIs.

no, thats with a new arc, the summer card is basically like a haswell refresh but for hawaii, just a small overclock, maybe slightly better specs.

This is just a rumor right now. AMD did announce that they will begin production of "certain GPUs" at Globalfondries this year. But we don't really know the nature of these GPUs if indeed they're high-end, mid-range or even a new flagship product.

If this turns out to be accurate it would be really funny seeing AMD get to stacked DRAM almost two years ahead of Nvidia after Nvidia continually touted stacked DRAM as the key feature of their Volta architecture which has been canned and replaced by Pascal.
My theory is they canned Volta because HMC (Hybrid Memory Cube) wasn't ready and they switched to HBM which was co-developed by SK Hynix & AMD.

The only one that cheap is PNY's and arguably its for good reasons. You couldn't pay me to use one of their GPUs. The only brands I would buy from are EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte and maybe Msi.

I wonder how Nvidia would react, a 780 ti price reduction, a 780 ti boost... mmm...

Amd did show off working prototypes of stacked memory (not on gpus) almost four years ago.

http://semiaccurate.com/2013/05/20/nvidias-volta-gpu-raises-serious-red-flags-for-the-company/

This is the one time amd has been leaps and bounds ahead of nvidia. Semiaccurate seems to believe that amd is just bidding their time till they need it to compete, as said in this excerpt:

"The take home message is that AMD had stacked memory on GPUs ready and waiting in late 2011. They still have that knowledge and can roll it out at any time for any product they choose to, top to bottom, mobile or discrete. AMD did not crow about it years prior to Tahiti, they just did the engineering quietly in a lab somewhere and worked all the kinks out. Nvidia is now talking about doing the same in with Volta in 2016?"

I see this being a big deal, and amd could tack this on to Hawaii to instantly take the crown back... And not relenquish it till nvidia can match the memory.

Daily Driver:

Case: Red Prodigy CPU: i5 3570K @ 4.3 GHZ GPU: Powercolor PCS+ 290x @1100 mhz MOBO: Asus P8Z77-I CPU Cooler: NZXT x40 RAM: 8GB 2133mhz AMD Gamer series Storage: A 1TB WD Blue, a 500GB WD Blue, a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
