The Linus Tech Tips, TechLinked, and TechQuickie Youtube channels have been restored.

Thanks for the concern everyone. We are still in recovery mode over here and working with YouTube to get everything restored. Will hopefully have a video (or at least an update on WAN Show) to share with you all ASAP, but we want to make sure we get the details right since smaller channels may rely on our experience to help harden their own security.

Almost all video's are gone, looks like the livestream has stopped tho, you'd think a tech oriented channel like LTT would be somewhat immune to this, I wonder how the hackers got in.

Anyway they left enough information behind for me to locate the city they operate from,

And the Macao police department should have no issues finding out who paid for that domain and shut it down.

But still couple good things from this.

 

1) Still YT really is toothless when it comes to account stealing. By now, if they could they hopefully would have terminated each and every active login session to LTT channel and forced it down.

 

2) Forums get some stress testing.

The live just got shut down, you could only talk in the chat if you had been subscribed for 15 years or you send a Super Chat.  Lots of people sent super chats just to say it was a scam.

Its actually very easy to get caught in this. Even some youtubers who are more related to Cyber Security have been compromised before. 
 

Youtube allows multiple emails to be added to your "brand" account to manage the channel and any one of these accounts sliping up can cause this. There are measures you can take to alert when something like this happens but its very hard to block something like this happening all together. 

 

In this cause it could been just someone trying to download OBS For quite a while there there was a Fake OBS Studio website posing as the legit one which was the `Redline stealer` malware embedded into OBS code. So unless you had a very keen eye and several security measures in place its very easy to slip up and install that istead and give up all your cookies and other data to hackers.
