Linus Tech Tips, Tech Quickie, Tech Linked channels hacked

betav17
Message added by Spotty,

The Linus Tech Tips, TechLinked, and TechQuickie Youtube channels have been restored.

A video explaining what happened is now up:

Clever move by the hackers, setting it to only 15+ year subscribers can chat.

EDIT: Gradually clawing control back...

hopefully they have one of the FP devs who works abroad on call for things like this..

You'd expect they have a plan for this in there BCM doc.

Assuming LMG as a BCM 😅

In these cookie hijack sessions which is what happened by the looks of it, they hide the videos don't delete them.

Also because they hijack the cookies, they just have auto login access no ability to change the channels passwords etc.

Could this have been related to the LastPass breach? I recall the WAN show discussing that they'd moved to a new password manager so i assume ther had been with LastPass.

Maybe someone used something from the breach or something happened during the change to a new provider.

The best thing to do for now is for youtube is to hire the best white hacker out there to track where the stream came from and capture the black hacker on the spot. It is not good to see them hack without justice.

The channel now has the logo back. Let the staff work, this is something LTT probably has a contingency plan for, and it's nearly 4AM over there.

Godspeed LTT.

Hacking them while it's the middle of the night in Vancouver... clever move. Videos are unlisted and Youtube team is probably already aware by now. My guess is everything should be back up fairly soon, but LMG's morning meeting will be interesting to say the least.
