PlayStation just killed PC VR

AlexTheGreatish

On paper the Sony PlayStation VR2 has specs that exceed a top of the line PC VR headset.. for half the price.

Sir, you are the exception of the exception...for 99% of the world is too heavy, too big, requires a big empty space, most of the time can't be used sit down, doesn't work with all games and is so expensive that you will look and think: Why should I buy this instead a better graphics card? 🤔

While the comfort isn't great on my headset, I can still easily pull a 10hr session, my playspace isn't that big (around 1.5m², and around half of it is limited by height), in VRChat I mostly sit, and the greatest thing : my headset was only 200€.

Sounds like a lot of preconceptions 🙂

The original PSVR which was much worse than the PSVR2 sold 5 million units as of 31 December 2019, Meta has sold over 20 million units as of recently. Saying the VR is very niche is just plainly disingenous. It hasn't quite reached main stream appeal but it's definitely on it's way there. You also do not represent everyone.

It is easy to determine

The quest 1 has a resolution of 1400*1600 per eye so in total 2800*3200 that's a little bit higher than 4K

and on top of that you need the GPU to be able to render at least at 75Hz at that resolution (cuz that's about the refreshrate of quest 1)

So you need to see at game benchmarks and see which GPUs can play 4K at above ~85ish average FPS .

BUT VR games are a lot less demanding than AAA 3D games set on high/ultra which is usually what the benchmarks are going to be set at so I suggest to look for a 2kliksphilip video on youtube testing out 4K with weaker settings cause I am sure he is going to have such things cause he is beautifully weird like that.

Now me without being a VR player so without having tested out GPUs for that just as a gut feeling would say that with a nvidia 2070 or even  better an amd 6800 xt and above you should be fine, but there could be some weaker GPUs that still could run (again since the games on VR are less demanding than the AAA 3d games) just fine maybe a Vega 64 would be the bottom line if not that then a gtx 1080

WOW, 5 million! 😱

This is almost 5% of the entire PS4 sales! Almost, because is around 4.2%... 😂

"only 200€" you are telling me your headset price is the same difference between buying a 3060 and a 3080? "1.5m²" you know many people live in apartments right?

Exception of exception as I was saying...

Just completely ignoring everything else I said I see. That was over 3 years ago. And 5 million units sold isn't no one or niche. I have no idea what's the point you're trying to make. The only thing you're trying to do is project your own preferences and opinions on to other people.

No, you are ignoring what I said, 5 million is absolutely nothing compared to the 117 million sales of the console, totally niche. So niche that probably Sony loses money every time they sold a VR headset.

The point is: You are hyped by this useless tech and probably in some years don't will even remember what this is, or don't you tell me you are using a 3D TV right now? Doesn't matter is it's good, bad, better than PC VR or worse, this tech is completely useless. Good maybe for simulation that needs a lot of screens, like airplane simulators, anything else is just hype.

Meanwhile people are spending over 200€ to get meaningless cosmetics in games, while I spent them to get a whole new gaming experience.

Also, if you think a bit about your floor space management, almost anyone can get at least 1m² freed, though I know some people who play with even less and still have a great experience. Space isn't an issue as long as you're not starting to run into walls like you can see in those viral videos 🙂

Great! It doesn't mean that 200€ isn't expensive for a accessory. 😁

The issue is that you're considering it as an accessory, which by definition would just augment your experience, while VR gives a whole other experience, and is then not an accessory.

Unless you've only tried porn on a Google Cardboard, you can't tell me VR is an "accessory".

Oh really, and is essencial to use a computer or console? your PC doesn't even turn on without a VR? 😂

Is an accessory and you are hyped.

Accessory is anything to "enhance" the normal experience, is not required and is not essential, is an accessory.

If it's not an accessory, sold your TV/Monitor and just uses the VR as it's not necessary anything else, right?
