SanDisk Announces 4TB SSDs, 8TB & 16TB SSDs to Follow

In other words, SSD density is eclipsing that of HDDs. Once costs come down, there will be far fewer reasons for datacenters to use HDDs.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use, and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them. - Galileo Galilei

This is good news. Sick of all the small(capacity not physical size) SSD's.

Although it is awesome to see SSD's with such high storage capacity, these aren't meant for consumers. Most consumer based PCs won't support SAS drives and most don't use SAS drives anyway. It should however, be a great option for anyone that has the money to throw down on a server build that they wish to have no HDDs in.

yes, but how much would you benefit of having all the movies on the SSD? speed wise, sound and so on

It wouldnt benefit from speed but it would benefit from space saving (assuming its a 2.5" drive) and reliability.

 I'd pay $1000.00 right now for that 4TB SSD. (yeah I'm one of those that have their entire steam library installed.)

I just refuse to run a mechanical drive even alongside a SSD.

Mechanical drives will be around for at least another decade.

My PC specifications are in my profile.

Predicting the future is hard. Don't expect to be right. Expect stuff to come out of left field and blindside you and your predictions. 4Tb might be next to nothing in the future, or maybe it will be enough for a long time for unknown reasons, who knows..

yes, it was clear that this would happen at some point, but could you put a 4tb ssd to use right now and say that's worth the 2000$?

If I had $2k to spare, I would.

Hell, I would get 4-6 of them and make a RAID array for my media server.

Help me I'm surrounded by morons.
