This is THE thread to show off what you are spending your days, nights and mornings at. Because we all know, we can't spend them without something to type with, look at and consume with. All setups are welcome. From your schools Chromebook on kitchen table to the comfy console gaming couch to that sleak, one cable Apple lounge. To those gaming setups filled with RGB-goodness, your nerdy cave with figures, sim racing setups. To any custom builds, be it your first or n+1th.

House rules:

  • Post your current setup, with pictures. Specs are welcome, but we are here to drool and be amazed of what kind of setups this community thrives from.
  • Try to keep discussion on topic, which is the setups. If you have more specific questions regarding troubleshooting or difference of some parts, please use your own thread in proper subforum.
  • If you are planning to build something and want to ask advice, proper subforum is New Builds and Planning.
  • If you are building or planning to build something from scratch, you might want to log and share the experience at Build Logs.
  • If you are caring person, please remove pics from quotes. While current forum version does hide them inside the quote box, they will still load which can be annoying and expensive to those on mobile connections.

Have fun!

PS. As some of you might note, this isn't the original thread from 2013. The original, with all its wonderful pics and builds, was lost due its creator deciding to leave us and deleting their account. While it might be possible to get that thread back, it has been decided not to be worth it.

I have a budget pc, I got it for free and had to re-install windows. I upgraded its ram, and I made the cardboard chair. I am upgrading it to learn how to build computers. I am a beginner. Any cheap suggestions? Also, what cheap good quality SSDs are there, and should I upgrade to intel i5?

intel i3

16 gigs of RAM

IPM87-MP

no graphics card (motherboard graphics)

1 TB HDD

also, I don’t care if this is roasted. I know I need to work on cable management, and yes, I have a bed.

It ran fine on a Phenom II x4 and 4GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB WD Blue HDD with over 65000 hours on it. Then I swapped the HDD in a Core 2 Duo E7400 and 3GB DDR2 system, it was usable. Currently running Windows 11 on my secondary PC with i7 4790 and thinking of dual-booting 11 on my main PC with my current install of Windows 7. You just have to do a bit of registry editing during installation of Windows 11 to bypass the checks and it installs and runs no problem. It actually detected and installed all the drivers for the Core 2 Duo system without Internet wich was unexpected, but a welcome surprise.

Wanted to share this server rack I built from the IBM printers I just replaced at work. Could not see these old work horses go to the dump after all the fun we had together. I wired a PI to the built-in fans with a temperature sensor to add airflow.

Upgraded my PC.  Still using the same PSU, GPU, storage, and case for now.  Def want to upgrade the case 100%.  But I got a Ryzen 5 7600X, so I'm on AM5 now, got 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and an Aorus mobo.  Also the cooler looks dope AF imo, and I'm not usually a fan of giant air coolers, but the AK500 looks sick IMO

Specs are as follows:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
  • Deepcool AK500
  • 32GB G.Skill Flare X5 RAM
  • Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite AX
  • Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super
  • 256GB NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD
  • 2x 1TB Inland SATA SSDs
  • Thermaltake SmartRGB 750W PSU
  • Thermaltake Versa H18 (with the tempered glass)

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Finished the build out for my computer / workspace. Turned 2 work benches into desks for my space, cut them down the middle and made inserts to stretch them to fill the space. Custom shelf for the computer with a UPS on the other side of the desk legs. 3D printer, vinyl cutter, and soldering / work space. LTT Velcro straps and clips screwed into the bottom of the desk for cable management.

Looks cool. My only concern is do you have anything like a metal bar/shelf supporting the weight of your GPU? I am asking this for myself. I am worried that the PCB or anything else will get bent.

Most motherboards have protection around the pcie slot and they screwed in the gpu to the pcie slot and this holds it into place pretty well so I wouldn't be too worried about it unless its a BIG card (3+ slots) that's also heavy

So this is still a bit of a work in progress (i'm waiting for a new cpu cooler and some more storage and psu cables) but this is my "new rig" I've had the machine for a while but i finally switched to a different, more modern case than the zalman z9 neo i had before, and got a fresh install of windows 11, which i'll prob wipe in a week to put it on the bigger drive. But anyways, i just love it so much, i just have to show someone. Especially the start up sound. I always wanted a custom sound on it! I kinda had mixed feelings on the login screen but it's kinda cool. I'll prob customize it more on the new install tho.

I'm planning on doing more, i feel it def needs a gpu upgrade (it's on 5700xt rn) but the prices are just so high rn and i'm kinda waiting on the 7800xt or to just bite the bullet and get a power hungry 6950xt. Idk how long imma have to wait till a good value comes out.

Specs are:

Ryzen 5800x3D

RX 5700xt

32gb DDR4-3200 Ram

has about 17tb of storage (about to be 19)

Fractial Design Pop Air

(also it has a bluray drive in it bc i like it)

This is the second PC my wife and I have built. I’m calling this the Micro Center special as most of it was purchased with the grand opening deals at the new Indianapolis Micro Center.

(7900x

Asus B650E-F

32GB DDR5 6000) $460 for the CPU/MOBO/RAM

DeepCool AK620 $30

4090 FE $1440

Corsair RMx SHIFT 1000 $180

Lian Li SL120 v.2 x6 $80 total

Fractal North. $140

Fans are side and front intake, top and rear exhaust. Monitor is a 55” LG CX. This is only because it was our previous TV with consoles. We had planned on picking up the C2 42”, but then Micro Center had the C2 55” for $599!! We decided on that for the $300 savings over the 42” and then brought this CX to the office.

So far super happy with how this turned out. Still need an actual chair but oh well.
