Nah, RX 6400 is on par with 1650, there's no way this 1630 will perform similar or better than 1650 imo. It just a successor to 1030.

Don't think this will be happening anytime soon. The 900 series is still getting game-ready drivers (and the 700 series is still getting long-term security updates) so it's going to be a long time yet before the 1030 is killed off.

so you think they should come out with a replacement the day before they end driver support and screw over people who bought the 1030 one week ago?

Not at all. All I'm saying is that the reason for this card's existence is not solely that the 1030 is losing driver support soon. In the same way that the 1030 was not released solely because Nvidia was planning on removing support for the GT 710 shortly after - that card is still supported to this day.

 

Does the 1630 appear to fill the same niche as the 1030? Yes. But this new card exists for reasons beyond driver support.

How many of those can you buy new? Also none of those are suitable if you want to run without a power connector. Price we'll have to wait and see.

yes and no, kind of what family they are in. the 1600 GTX series is inbetween 1000 GTX to 2000 RTX series, the cards that are inbetween but might not perform better than some GTX cards, like in around a newer mid tier GTX card. That might include faster or newer GDDR and such.

So making a new low tier in that family is kind of confusing, as some consumers might think the 1600 series being newer and better than the 1000 series when it might not be.

In a lot of cases, buying used can be a better option, just make sure the Power Supply is adequate enough for the graphics card.

 

People who can only use a GPU that does not need a power connector from the PSU and want to buy new, will have to pay what the MSRP was for the GTX 1650 or more. It's Nvidia being Mr. Crabs again.

Yes. The 1630 is least powerful of the GTX 1600 series line up so far. The cards I am betting on are roughly about similar or just under the performance of the GTX 1650, even though they are older. So by my guess an older GTX 1060, 3 or 6 GB, will outperform the GTX 1630 in many gaming scenarios.

Look at the world around. Everything is going up in price, even for non-silicon based products. Nvidia are not immune to this. The only thing we can expect is it should be somewhat below the 1650 in the longer term. Don't try comparing to past pricing. What you can get it for when you're buying is what matters.

 

It is up to a buyer to get something suitable for their uses. Yes, used can potentially offer better perf/$ but also comes with risks, and there are many non-perf factors to consider too.

....ok..I have a 8gig 1070TI.....are these "better"?  From comments in this thread...should I be becoming concerned about my card becoming unsupported?

almost 2x better performance  compare to GTX 1650. I reckon Nvidia will drop support for Pascal in 2-3 years. 
for Maxwell a.k.a 900 series, probably next year or 2.

No, these are low end cards.

You card is probably 3-4 times as powerful as this one.

A replacement for the GT 1030 and its $150, even price increases doesn't excuse a basic display output card for being the same MSRP as a GTX 1650. GPU's don't follow inflation either, GPU prices were reasonable until the RTX 2000 series.

Even with inflation, this card's rumored or hoped for price is $35 too high, and that is me being fair.

makes me wonder how it will even stay up against its own 1650 and RX 6400 GPUs.

Also how the price wouldn't do much of a favor to the 1630 being in the 1600 series, when the 6400 and 1650 is already market price might be 230 dollar from its 160 dollar price. so 180 dollar or so for this card is not great, might not run things and depending on its VRAM. but I guess the launch price if in stock, might be lower.

People should just refuse to buy those cards at those prices forcing vendors to lower prices.

In 2011 i bought a mid-range card like the HD 6750 for $150,the basic display output card was the HD 5450 for $50.

Just look at the mobile support to see when they will drop it. Kepler mobile was dropped last year.

So if there is a three-four year lag from support to unsupported, then I'd say the Mobile Maxwell part support ends this year, and the desktop parts ends in 2026. Historically their support is about 7-9 years.

 

Then again, the most likely reasons for the discontinued drivers is because these parts are already being abandoned in the enterprise space. Like the laptops that have the Kepler parts were tossed 2 years ago, but most people who were still holding on to them were supposed to replace them 4 years ago. Desktops with them were still occasionally being found.

There is some logic to them, at least it works on mid to high end. Not so sure about the bottom end. For one generation advancement, equivalent performance is roughly 1 to 1.5 tiers lower positionally, for gaming performance at least. For example of cards I've owned, 980 Ti performs about the same as the 1070. 2080 Ti performs about the same as 3070. 1080 Ti performs a bit higher than 2070 (excluding RT games), maybe a 2070S is closer. This does not hold for compute uses where newer generations perform about a tier or more higher than gaming performance alone would indicate.

The numbers are logical. It's just that the various positions of the numbers means different things, which is not intuitive. 

 

Since this card ends with "30", we know that it's a low end card. 

Your card thst ends with "70" was a high end card. 

Newer low end cards rarely outperform slightly older high end cards.
