What Tools Should I Get?

So I'm kind of new to the pc building scene, and I'm looking for stuff to use when I build my first pc. For example stuff like a parts tray, anti static strap and mat, magnetic screwdriver and whatever, but I don't know where I would get all of this. Please can someone help me with this since it would be extremely helpful. (I'm in the UK btw).

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, since I didn't know where to put it.

You don't really need much, and you probably already have a couple of phillips screwdrivers laying around.

Small zip ties to make all wires organized would be my best suggestion.

Anti static strap is something that is suggested often, although, not necessary - there are other ways to ground yourself.

Everything else is just for extra comfort 🙂

If you are really into tools go grab an I Fix it kit.

You can also go DIY and by a magnetic pad for screw of amazon, usually hardware stores have those magnetic metal cups for screws but that is not necessary for any job, more practical if you do a lot of disassembly, personally if i have to mark where screws must go just use a piece of double sided tape.

Beside zip ties by a wire cutter so you can cut the ends of the zip ties after you are done.

For anti-static strap, a good alternative is to just ground yourself before touching sensitive components.

I usually used a box for the anti-static mat.

The best tool is a a nice screwdriver.  Really I find aside from the parts, a philips head screwdriver is typically the only other thing you really must need.

even the off-brand "ifixit" kits work great, talking from experience lol

i would get a spare phillips laying around if ur building a pc, or taking apart oem pcs, but if ur dealing with consoles or apple-related products i would get an ifixit kit, or even an offbrand one on amazon, both still work great. anti-static straps arent a necessity but just recommended, i would definitely recommend a magnetic tray. but, thats pretty much it, you can find all of this stuff on amazon. Happy pc building! 🙂

God no, don't buy an IFixit.  Unless you want a whole lot of fairly expensive bits you won't ever use.

Does the UK have no stores or Amazon?  Get a magnetic screwdrier and be done.

Unless you're building out some PC lab and workshop for doing this daily you don't need more than a screwdriver and zip ties for cable management.

Read again what i said "If you are really into tools go grab an I Fix it kit.". I personally love tools, love collecting them, having some odd ones that will probably never be used.

Let me rephrase mine then.  Do NOT buy Ifixit even if you have a porn fixation with tools.  There are tools worth collecting (I have an old Adze that has so much character that I have just hanging) and tools you use (Kobalt, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, etc).  Ifixit is tools just to have tools, that have convinced the tech set that they're a premium set of must haves.

They're overpriced, decent-ish quality, but just not relevant for 99% of users.  Lifetime warranty is nice, I will concede that.  I get that others do it too, Home Depot and Lowe's are rife with them.  But they're higher quality and not targeted at the tech crowd with in your face JayzTwoCents "Fix it!!!" ads.

My issue is they're marketed to tech users who don't need 90%+ of what is in the kit so you buy a kit for 1 or 2 bits and the rest are waste.  Just get that 1 screwdriver, it's all we need.

I get loving tools, but iFixit isn't it.

Ifixit has the mentality of "We need to provide tools to the tech crowd since they're not being catered to, oh noes!!!!!".  Tools are tools.  We're fine.

Honestly magnetic screwdriver is all u need. A slightly (1size) bigger one for stuff like fan mounting is nice but not necessary.

Also you can "ground" yourself on the case, you just have to touch it at all times with your arm or hand... sounds awkward but I have no issues doing this, i mean its basically natural to touch the case while working on it.

"Electrical wristband" is utter nonsense,  unless you have carpet i guess,  in which case you shouldn't touch the inside of a pc anyways period.

You don't really need that much. You can just take a bowl for all your screws if you want. You also don't need to buy a fancy 'ol screwdriver.
