I ordered 2 Ryzen 5 1600 AF CPU’s from Amazon. They were listed as new. When I received them today, they had white tape over the original stickers and box tab and too me they look like they were pre-opened. I’ve included photos. What do you think?  I’ve bought several other Ryzen CPU’s and they always had a clear, round sticker over the box tab.  I paid $150 each for these (even though they should only be $85) and I don’t want used product.

Yes, you got scammed. No one should pay $150 for a 1600, and the appear to at least be refurbished CPUs, not new like it sounds like you paid for.

This wasn’t about the price. I knew I was paying more than I should but needed them for my kids build.

Depending on the retailer, they might open each box up and verify during their receiving process. It looks like there is a unique code that probably has to do with the retailer's POS (point of sale) system to track their inventory.

But given all the chaos around Amazon lately, I would tread lightly. Maybe open a claim or contact the reseller to get more information.

well, it would help if you opened them, see if the coolers are there, if everythings where it should be, the ihs says 1600, the oinout is a am4 pinout, and if the stock paste is on the cpu, If its all there, it dooesnt really matter.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

If the original tape is still fine it's new. Probably the seller putting white tape over it with the sticker. And yeah it shouldn't be 150, you can get a 10400F for that, and if you spend 30 more a 11400F.

I wanted AMD. Not a fan of Intel.

I can’t tell if the original tape is fine or not. I tried peeling the white tape off carefully but it’s tearing the box up.

It matters if it’s been in a system for months or years and overclocked to death. And I’m counting on whatever warranty I might have being a new CPU.

If the cpus work, and you don't care about the price, then I am unsure what your concern is.

I think I may contact them just to be sure. I don’t want to open them until I know. Once I open them, the reseller can say I opened them and they were shipped sealed and new.

Once I open them, the seller can rebuke my claim and say I opened them and they were shipped new and sealed.

Record a video of yourself opening the box. It's really not that big of a deal. If you think that's too much of a risk then send them back as-is and explain your concerns to Amazon.

Just return it to Amazon...

And yes, depending on the conditions the seller has you might not get a full refund if you open the boxes... you should check that. Also was it sold by Amazon?

I would just always try to see to buy from Amazon directly,  or at least make sure there's good buyer protection *free returns etc

I would just return it based on that ,if i buy new i want the original stickers intact not some scummy diy ones. 🤷‍♂️

@Mark Kaine Yeah I didn't think that practice was still a thing. I knew back when I worked at a small mom and pops computer retail company in the early 00s we had to open each CPU case up and put a marking on the CPU so we knew it came from us. So it could make identifying if the product was purchased through us or not. Because relying on their inventory software (quickbooks) was less than reliable.
