RX 6900 XT RAY TRACING

fox hound

i was using  Nvidia graphic card gtx 1080 ti for 4 years .

and now i decided to change to amd cards

and after a long search on the youtube i bought the the RX 6900 XT

i have been using the new RX 6900 XT for 5 days on my old games

then i try to install a new games that support the RAY Tracing technology

like control / cyberpunk 2077 and metro Exodus and many other games

but unfortunately all the games that i installed can't run ray tracing

in other words .... the ray tracing section in the game sitting is locked

i did a little search on google and youtube

and i discovered that ray tracing needs dx12 or dx12 ultimate and dxr API

according to amd the rx 6900 xt supports all of this

and i double check that my rx 6900 xt is up 2 date and the dx12 ultimate as well

and the win 10 pro is up 2 date ( version 21H1 OS BUILD 19043.1288 )

FYI my pc rig is

i9 9900k
corsair ram 16gb ddr4 3600mhz
gigabyte z390 aorus master
gigabyte rx 6900 xt gaming oc 16g
PSU seasonic 1300w platinum

i thought that the ray tracing is only for nvidia graphics card

and i will understand if my new rx 6900 xt will not run ray tracing .... but what drives me crazy

that i saw many youtube videos of a people running ray tracing with rx 6900 xt for

control / cyberpunk 2077 and metro Exodus  ... how they did it

i am sure there is something wrong in my rig or my win 10 or i am missing some kind of software

or my new rx 6900 xt is broken

in the end ... i hope that u find the time to read  my problem

Cyberpunk is a really busted game. Here is a post online with some other users that have the same issue, on Nvidia graphics cards too

https://forums.cdprojektred.com/index.php?threads/ray-tracing-is-not-available-on-rtx-card.11040980/

As @CommanderAlex said, using DDU to uninstall drivers and install new ones can help.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I guess 99.99% of all GPU's ever made, and something like 90% of all the ones currently in use according to the Steam hardware survey, are "useless" since they don't do ray tracing in Cyberpunk. (One of the most notoriously buggy games of the last decade if not in history, of course, but sure blame AMD.)

You got your hands on an incredibly powerful card that will be able to run any game at high frame rates for the next several years. If you were really concerned about ray tracing you should have gone Nvidia anyway since even though AMD 6000 series can theoretically do ray tracing now they're still a big step behind in that regard.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

if you are using it for 1440p it's mostly faster than a 3090and RTX is overrated anyway, the fake stuff with ambient occlusion looks better for metro and control  you can just google that. As for cyberpunk...thats more of an exception.

I just sold my 6800 XT and bought a 3080. Why? To be honest I felt like I was missing out on RT and DLSS. I tried to convince myself that I didn’t care about those features but in the end if the cards are similar in price and performance, then why not go with the one that gives you more features? I was hoping that Fidelity FX would be a game changer for AMD but not enough games support it yet.

If your AMD drivers and the games are updated, there is no real reason you can't turn on ray tracing. Now, keep in mind the ray tracing performance is going to be quite poor compared to Nvidia's cards but its still an option in those three games you listed.

In Cyberpunk, you can see he just enables it in this video.

all amd rx 6000 series gpus support ray tracing. Performance ain't great, but it has the ray tracing cores, and it works.

I have run control and doom eternal with ray tracing on my 6700 xt.

This is not related to apis. There must be something seriously wrong with your drivers. Try downloading display driver uninstaller (DDU), and using that to wipe your graphics drivers. Then reinstall.

When you say you "reinstalled the rx 6900 xt" do you mean you reinstalled the latest official drivers from AMD directly?

I still feel like there is something missing here, can you share a screenshot of what you mean by "locked"?

I think you still misunderstand. Running DDU and doing a clean install of the drivers from AMD does not require taking the card out of the case.

Did you download the drivers from here? https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-6000-series/amd-radeon-6900-series/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt

Oh yeah it's totally AMD's fault that the Metro:Exodus devteam had a partnership with nVidia to make their game only playable with an nVidia 30-series card so said company could benefit from marketing.

If it were not for nVidia you likely would not be seeing Raytracing on AMD.

- Use DDU and select remove Nvidia driver to remove all Geforce leftovers files, not AMD drivers.

- Download Riftbreaker demo on Steam and check if you can enable Raytracing in that game.

- Check if Ray-tracing is detectable in latest version of GPUZ.  https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

This doesn't seem like it. I've got a 6900 XT myself and I can enable all features in Cyberpunk except Nvidia DLSS which is understandable.

Ray Tracing worked in all games that I've tried so far like SOTTR, Control, Cyberpunk, Battlefield V.

That's the thing. I don't want memetracing on AMD because I don't want to pay 25% more for a feature I won't ever use.

The 5700XT was the last card without it, guess I'll use it until it can't even run Pong, or companies release cards without that """feature""", or, of course, more than 3 games and 5 demos are able to use it.

You do you, you have clearly never experienced it so are lacking experience.

Your 5700 XT is a solid card, Ray tracing is the future though.

It's probably a bug in CP2077. It's a miracle that game even runs. I use RT in Doom Eternal on my 6700XT, it's good enough for 1440p, not sure any other game. Have you considered doing a reformat and clean install of everything?

If i'm being real though, in anything outside of Quake 2 RTX or Minecraft RTX, you really don't notice the RT outside of your framerate being tanked. It's alot like Pixel Shader 1.0 vs Hardware T&L back in the GeForce 3 days.

I meant that it has hardware support unlike amd's rx 5000 series or nvidia's gtx 1000 series.

I guess I was wrong on the specifics of how it is accomplished
