If I have a 30-series Nvidia GPU, is it safe to play "New World"?

matt4realz

So, it seems like New World has come back out of beta to kill even more GPUs now.

I've read that applying frame rate limiters on the Nvidia Control Panel itself can prevent "Death to GPUs".

I have an RTX3070 TUF from Asus, would it be safe for me to play if I apply a 144fps cap via the nvidia control panel?

CPU : Intel i5-12600K

Motherboard : ASUS TUF Z690-PLUS WIFI D4

RAM : Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200MHz CL16 (2x8GB)

GPU : Asus TUF RTX3070

Jay had a recent video about this after it is bricking a second round of cards.

Just watched it, however im still skeptical that turning down the power limits will help because the menu looks unreasonably intensive for no good reason.

Even if there wasn't a shortage, I wouldn't want to brick my GPU over a game's bad coding

Bad coding. No reason whatsoever for this to be happening. Glad it's a game I'm not interested in.

I've been running it on my EVGA 3090 FTW3U Rev1.0 for about 80 hours in game. I use the KPE 520w bios with a +120/+1448/+100 OC. Here is a 10 minute perfcap with all settings maxed at 3440x1440. AMA.

Founder's Edition cards are fine.

Even so I wouldn't test fate with it.

If I can throw 600W TDP onto a 3090 FE and not blow anything up, I don't think it has anything to fear from New World.

Shocked that the game is still bricking cards, amazed that many are still risking their cards on this game, glad that I have absolutely zero interest in this game.

How in the heck is your card able to draw that much power? Mine peaks in the low 400w on water.

Shunt mod.

Note all the input power rails (except total board power) should be multiplied by 1.98x.  I was too lazy to add it in hwinfo.

Ah I'm too chicken to do that lulz. Glad to hear it works though.

Quick question hopefully you can help, in the normalised TDP reading on hwinfo how come it goes up to 118%? Mines hitting 115% and just curious why as it’s completely stock however it is a OC Gigabyte 3080

Pretty stupid argument, the GPU should handle whatever load a user could conceivably throw at it.

More likely, the card’s power delivery failed to account for some obscure mixed workload and/or failed to throttle back the clocks as power consumption was spiking.

I think we can comfortably say with the data at hand that it is both.

Yes, no software should fans cards but we have seen it with furmark in the past as well.

To that point this game has killed many cards with other games not having issues. From the many videos I have seen about new world it is poorly written. Which is to be kinda expected kind of how new Amazon is to making games.

My bios power limit is 120% so that's why mine is going that high. Not sure about your specific card.
