New Ford Maverick

My only fear is that on the quest for economy they screw it up and the driving experience is bad.

I don't want another Dodge Calibur.

But since it's based on proven existing vehicles it shouldn't be too bad. I hope.

As Steve Burke says... Wait for reviews.

On paper it seems like a good option.

Eh, only a small subset of buyers will care about the driving experience. The 18 F150 I shopped was a quick return to the dealer because the steering was completely numb and void of any feeling. It also had waay too much assist. This isn't the early 2010s where every EPS unit has to be over boosted and feel like a video game.

2021 Razer Blade 14 3070 / S23 Ultra

I suppose that's the wrong wording.

I mean if it's uncomfortable, buggy, problematic, etc.

The civic I mentioned - 10th generation civic seemed to actually really change the driving experience. It felt - no FEELS - better to drive than even my Acura or 7th gen Accord. That was an unexpected bonus.

If the Maverick drives well on top of it all, I'd be all about it.

Ah, yeah. In my experience Ford usually gets comfort down. Buggy / problematic is just luck of the draw.

10th gen civic is by far the best handling modern FWD car I've driven. I used to own one, and I miss it for that reason. I'm hoping that once the 11th gen comes out and used car prices come down I can pick one up cheap.

I traded in a 2017 civic SI sedan for the Acura TLX because I got tired of driving stick (again) after a few years, and my commute sucked.

Then covid-19 hit and I've been wfh ever since LOL.

The rev hang sucked, and I didn't really love the turbo 4 over the high strung 4 banger, but the chassis was amazing

There was a ford car in the '70s called the Maverick, now they're polluting the Maverick name with this. now when trying to find pictures/information on the car, you may get search results for this new pickup.

1975 Ford Maverick:

Spoiler

BUDGET ENTRY LEVEL CLASSIC - 1975 Ford Maverick Sedan - 45K MI - NO RESERVE - Classic Ford ...

Haven't read through the thread, sorry if this was already mentioned.

†

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

Cry havoc and let slip the Togs of war.  (Signature V3)

Haven’t seen the same problem with Audi drivers.  If they’re the same people they learned how to drive and developed some basic courtesy.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

If we put aside that, the name Maverick itself seems to apply to this vehicle pretty well. In this sense it means an individual that does not go along with a group.

Seems based on the comments of the thread, it fits that criteria at least.

TCS probably is a requirement in some locations, as is brakes etc.

I would say that it would cost MORE for Ford to implent these more "analog" features, and would probably be detrimental to the mission of the vehicle.

And basic radio? No thanks. If it doesn't have Android auto or apple carplay, I'm out.

I don't think it would cost more, if they have other vehicles that could share the same parts (which they do). With cars becoming more expensive (Not because of inflation) it would be nice to have a back to basic automobile, like something easy to take care of, easy to use, very practical and have the driver be more connected with it. That is what the cheap new car buyer needs, because I have seen it both ways.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with more manual controls, but I think from a manufacturing standpoint it probably costs more to have a separate (even if less expensive) process than to just use the one you already have going.

Without access to the information providing the manufacturing cost, we really don't know, we just kinda assume based on what outside info we gather, so it is a mystery right now.

Nothing wrong with being proud as long as it is for good reason.

I am proud to be a 4:3 CRT gamer (you should try it).

I am proud that the newest automobile that I own is 27 years old (I might be going backwards).

I was proud to be an ASE certified Automotive Technician.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that resurrecting parts manufacturing from a decade or more ago would cost more than to just use the ones you're already making.

No hate, but just helps explains your perspective.

I'm no stranger to 4:3; it's just I've left that behind me for the most part. The only time it's better in my opinion is when playing old console games vs. simulated interlacing.

My parents had a Ford maverick.  Wasn’t a pickup.  Not sure what it would be the same as.  Smallest cheapest car Ford made.  Had a fake spoiler built into the back trunk lid.
It was considered my moms car.  Had vinyl seats.  Story is one year my mom sat down in the car and the seats shattered because the vinyl got too cold.  Thing I remember most about it was it was the first time I caught air in a car.  I was late for a dentist appointment and the sitter drove it kinda hard.

When I showed this to my father, he said "that's the Maverick? Why would they make it a truck?"

(I was thinking the same thing, as I've seen the originals.)

I hate it, CVT's are crap for trucks, this vehicle will have a short life span.

It's worth noting that this has an eCVT which is very different compared to a normal CVT, with a simpler and more durable design, which doesn't even have a pully. Most hybrids use these, including old Prii (Priuses? Priuii?) that you still see on the road.

The Maverick also isn't designed to haul as much stuff as a bigger pickup, decreasing the stress on the transmission. However, it's probably for the better that Ford isn't using a conventional CVT on the 2.0T models.

I'm pretty excited to get one of these, never use it as an actual truck............and not feel bad about overspending on a truck i never use as a truck.

Ask he how I know what that feels like 👀

Compact pickups are still handy for a lot of things.  Full size pickups are almost exclusively a North American thing.  They’re usually smaller other places.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

It's really not much different than CPUs or GPUs.

Lots of folks (including myself) overbuy on hardware because they can, and justify it for some reason or other.

I have a 10900k and a 3080, but I play an MMO that generally is CPU limited most of the time and doesn't care about threads.

It's a very common occurrence across markets.

It makes sense, lots of people like high end stuff because of the experience, or if you don't even take advantage of the hardware it will last much longer than just buying lower end hardware, like say buying a full size truck it will last a very long time if you never use it as a truck.

Ridgeline is a bad comparison because it's not even in the same league price wise.

And are you kidding?

Tacoma starts at $26,000 or 30% more expensive. Ridgeline starts at $36,500, or 82% more expensive.

The maverick aims to compete against a Honda Civic more than it does to compete against the Ridgeline or Tacoma.

Which is why the hybrid being standard is such a big deal.

Except theres lots of comparing to the Ridgeline in this thread, its not even in the same category, although the Ridgeline is in a interesting spot where its a between a compact a midsize pickup.

Yes the Tacoma is more expensive, but if i needed a truck it would be well worth it IMO, also resale value on just about any Toyota is excellent.

I don't really understand how a compact truck compares to the Honda Civic, besides fuel economy. I've heard that pointed out a lot and it sounds like something some marketing board at Ford came up with. If you're shopping for a Civic, you'd probably compare it to a Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, and a Mazda 3, not a compact pickup.
