  • Go with RAM 3200mhz or greater, in CL16
  • I'd probably look at the Intel 11400
  • Don't know that case, but I'd be worried about airflow
  • What are you paying for the GPU? I wouldn't overpay for something like a 1050Ti
  • If the GPU is really overpriced, I'd honestly consider prebuilt or laptop

To put it simply: Yes.
If I were you I'd try to get a bit faster ram (something like 3200MHz rather than 2400) but other than that this looks fine to me.

The case seems to have enough meshing at the front for decent ventilation.

I dont know the case but i would definetly change the RAM to 3200MHz. Correct me if im wrong but the mainboard got onboard gigabit ethernet so why the network card. Is the red led stripe necessary? You could got with something like the "Corsair Vengance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4 3200MHz". Also i would change the 1050Ti but the prices are really mad. Maybe you should wait or go with an prebuilt.

it'll definitely be much better

but i would say depends on how much u wanna spoil him and what game he (and maybe his friends) are into

1050ti is near obsolete for modern games, unless you set your expectations real low

those games should run okay on a 1050ti

but a 1660 would open up more games for him if his taste changes in the future

personally i wouldnt buy a 1050ti today if i can get a 1660 for a fair price (tough thing to do nowadays)

given the calibre of the rest of your built 1660 makes more sense

but the pricing today makes little sense, so maybe you can go with a 1050ti for now and upgrade it a bit later, say, 2 years later when price (hopefully) becomes sane again

You should go with a fast/comfy M.2 NVMe SSD (2GB/s or higher), the price difference is small (also consider going 2TB).

I don't like those big empty cases, I go micro-ATX but it adds difficulty.

Kudos for going A team.

I'm willing to swim against the current.

i agree, 1050ti is "ok" but youll run into its limits fast, so something slightly better, would be ,well... better. 😅

Motherboard has built in Gigabit Ethernet, i don't think you need additional ethernet and additional WiFi card (WiFi sucks btw), but it's up to you.

There would be little risk in this build.

1050s and 1660s are rarely big and micro ATX isn't mini ITX

A 1050ti is a good stop gap considering the mad-high prices at the moment.
Just keep in mind you’re probably upgrading in about 2 years.
Also you don’t need the wired network card as the motherboard handles this.

Please keep in mind:

I may be stupid.

As mentioned by @Littleman I would definitely consider Intel 11400F with a B560 motherboard.

Intel i5 11400F out performs Ryzen 3600 in basically all gaming benchmarks and it is also cheaper.

Prices may differ a little bit in the UK but on Amazon the 11400F cost $175 compared to $230 for the Ryzen 3600.

CPU: i9 9900K   Cooler: NH-D15   RAM: Kingston Fury 4 x 8GB 3600MHz CL17   Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F   GPU: ASUS 3080 TUF   Case: In Win D-Frame   PSU: Corsair HX850i   Storage: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (OS), 500GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (Games), 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD (Storage)   Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9.

I would swap out that board if possible, as the Asus B450-Plus is pretty terrible. You can get an MSI B450-A PRO MAX for around the same price. A cheaper option would be something like an ASRock B450 Pro 4.

You could also try a cpu with a decent integrated graphics (4650G or even 4750G) and wait for better gpu days
