should poor gamers buy prev gen in current no supply situation?

SAVE-12-HK

due to high demand in cpu and gpu, amd isnt going to release any more lower end lines for now, so they can max their profit, also nvidia...

would it be a wise choice to pick last gen stuff in current stock issue?

eg i5 10400, rx5600 etc

Your question is an odd one in the way you word it.... But,

You should buy what you feel is best for you.

If you can find and afford newest gen then buy it, if not then buy what meets your need and budget.

I dont always buy newest gen, I buy what fits my need... and I cant say I am poor or rich...

Last gen stuff is also priced higher since that's what people do, so... No general rule. If you need something NOW buy whatever fits your budget.

I rarely buy newest gen, current rig Im about to do a log on has a R5 3600 and a RTX 2060 (both bought this year, 2021).  Can I afford newest Gen?  Sure if I wanted to make sacrifices elsewhere but I am unwilling to do that because goals.

Poor gamers?

Buy what you can afford! I mean, I've used my wifes office pc for light gaming with my son. He likes Brick rigs, Roblox some other easy going titles. But did all that on a Ryzen Athlon 220ge passively cooled and using the iGpu Vega 3 graphics. 1080P it did fine actually. Just gotta remember to lower or disable post processing in your games.

10400 + RX5600 is pretty decent for a poor man.

No because people are psycho paths wanting dam near retail for their 5 year old card, or newer. Let those people suffer with their credit card bills until new stuff is available.

like amd r5 3600 is still $200 rarely found, the new 5600x is $300 with $100 more markup by shops, making 2x cost for only a gen improvement, by that itself is already ridiculous, same markup on rtx3000

And that's why right now is a horrible time to upgrade. Unless you have lots of patience with F5. There's not enough supply to fill demand. They know they can charge more because parts will sell at that inflated price. Worst case scenario, they sell some at the inflated price then sell the rest at slightly less than MSRP later and still can come out ahead.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Right now, I’d probably say don’t bother looking for a GPU, unless the machine makes you income (scalper prices are still much cheaper than comparable or slower Quadros). Even older stuff (including some Maxwell cards) is pretty inflated.

Play some Stardew Valley and Minecraft for a few months instead, or look at some other lighter indie games that will run on iGPUs. I’m pretty inclined to pick up A Hat In Time myself on GoG.

Best practice during supply shortages is to buy used and local - craigslist, facebook marketplace etc. are your friends. This gets a bit sketchier with GPUs because of mining

would it be a wise choice to pick last gen stuff in current stock issue?

eg i5 10400, rx5600 etc

It is the worst time ever to buy something new now ... an rx 5600 xt goes for example in europe now from 350 to 400 euros (about $400-480) that's the price I ppaid  for my RX 5700 xt a year back!

I would advise you to either be patient and not buy anything or if you really cant play games you like at a framerate and graphics settings you feel comfortable playing with and enjoying them then go try your luck in the used market which also has bulged prices but you could find some deals here and there (especially in local listings -but try to inspect the hardware in person before you hand over the cash- or maybe on ebay auctions)

To check if a used card is worth the price just load youtube and type in X card vs some current gen to see the difference in FPS and judge if the deal appeals to you money wise compared to the supposed MSRP of current gen offerings (dont compare with actual prices because you'll end up buying a GTX 1080 ti @ $700 because currently a RTX 2070 is running at that ridiculous pricetag.... )

Well one solution is to buy like a PS 4 or Xbox One because those are easy to get and affordable. Plus you don't have to worry about games not being compatible with your rig because games are made specifically for the console. However, I would just save for like 1-3 years if I were poor until I could get something decent.

Consoles are not cheaper they have a lower acquisition price but the games have higher pricetags unless you like to play older games which you can find for cheap especially if used.

But yea at this particular point in time it may be more wise (in terms bang for buck) to buy a console if he "has" to play certain titles and cant wait and then in the not foreseeable future if things get normal again  sell it and pony up some money for an upgrade.

I would buy a R5 3600 if you could get one for around £200 ($230). Maybe an intel Chip if you are gaming only and can get a good deal (I wouldn't pay more than £150 for a 10400). Graphics card wise I would consider a 1660 super at £200 if you can find one and you only need 1080p gaming (mostly medium some high).  Wouldn't buy a RTX 20 series card, they are so overpriced considering the performance of the 30 Series. I would only get one if you can pay the following (Current mark up and second hand prices make these v unrealistic)

RTX 2060 £225

RTX 2070 £260

RTX 2080 Ti £450.
