Corsair A500 on sale

Hi,

     I keep seeing the corsair A500 on sale for ~50 is there any significant reason not to get it over say a scythe fuma II?

AMD blackout rig

 

cpu: ryzen 5 3600 @4.4ghz @1.35v

gpu: rx5700xt 2200mhz

ram: vengeance lpx c15 3200mhz

mobo: gigabyte b550 auros pro 

psu: cooler master mwe 650w

case: masterbox mbx520

fans:Noctua industrial 3000rpm x6

I'll probably be replacing the fans with a pair of noctuas i have lying around.

It's just not a good cooler. The heatsink isn't even good

The only reason I could think to even get the A500 is to specifically match a mostly Corsair build with a low power CPU, otherwise I'd get the Fuma II in all other situations.

 

If you're not concerned about a warranty and you don't mind possibly lapping it for like an hour, you can do Corsair's job lapping the coldplate until its actually flat. Its not all that terrible after that.

It's not just the fans.

The cold plate that makes contact with the CPU IHS is junk, and not even flat.

It's like Corsair just made a really big cooler, and didn't care how it performed, and didn't care about the tolerances.

 

Back in 2010, Corsair released the A50 and A70 air coolers (yeah, they didn't just have AIOs back then).

They performed great...I even had a Corsair A50 on my overclocked i5-4690K, until I made the switch to a NZXT X61 AIO.

The Corsair A50 was in the same ~$30 price bracket as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, and it left it in the dust.

 

This...this A500 successor...is just...junk.

Hardware Canucks did some experimenting...

Swapping the fans, and lapping the coldplate dropped the temps by 12*C.

In their sample, one of the heatpipes came up taller than the other heatpipes, making the CPU contact patch not flat.
