How to design and execute a desktop table?

I want to design a table for my desktop and home office.

 

I know a bit of blender, can I design the table in blender?

How do you suggest going about the design of the table?

 

What do I need to design?

The plate?

The legs?

Holes for cables or cable management?

What else?

 

Do you have tips on how to design a desk in blender so it will also be possible to create it?

I mean, any 3d modeling program should work, but honestly I would use some type of CAD program.

 

(truthfully I would just use  a pencil and paper.. I've used the top of an old dress and left over 2x4s from when I built a wall between my living room and kitchen to make my desk. I sanded it all down and stained it a nice golden honey kind of color, then sealed it with 3 layers of polycrylic and high grit sanding with a 0000 zero steel wool finishing buff. its so shiny my mouse wont track on it.)

Pen, paper and some good measurements will get you most of the way for the design.

 

Then simple strong wood for the legs and frame. For the top of the table whatever you please that can take the weight of what is put on.

There is plenty of content in the Internet on how to build desks. Most of the aforementioned points are up to your preference. I'd pay attention to the sturdiness of the whole desk and basic cable management below the table. However, I wouldn't drill cable management holes, since I prefer routing down the cables on the back of the desk. As I sad, that's my preference, yours might be different. It greatly depends on your setup and your circumstamces.

For designing, I'd either draw it by hand with pencil and paper or Fusion360, depending on the complexity of the design.

Pen and paper are probably best for simple things. Any CAD software and some 3D modelling software with design/architecture options work too. But if you are working in 2D, don't need to use weird angles and have logical scale, something like Inkscape or other vector tools work too.

 

What they won't work for is trying to visualize my urban planning assignment and sketching parking lots.
