At this point I may just wait until the new AMD or Intel CPU's come out to do a full new system build.. At least we know that both AMD and Intel know how to do a launch and bots won't be as much of a problem.

Don't be so sure. Also, if you already have an X570 or B550 board, you don't need a system rebuild to get the new AMD CPUs.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang thinks Ampere shortages may last till 2021

geforce-rtx-3090-product-gallery-full-sc

In a Q&A session after GTC Digital 2020 NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang confirmed that GeForce RTX 3090/3080 shortages are to be expected until 2021:

I believe that demand will outstrip all of our supply throughout the year. Remember, we’re also going into the double-whammy, the double-whammy is the holiday season. Even before the holiday season we were doing incredibly well, and then you add on top of it, the Ampere factor, and then you add on the Ampere holiday factor, and we’re going to have a really really big Q4 season.”
– Jensen Huang

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 launch has seen an unbelievable demand, with retailers fighting over each shipment to fulfil their preorder queues. Meanwhile, manufacturers are providing daily updates on social media and apologizing for the delay in graphics card availability.

The reports of possible shortages have been appearing even before Ampere GPUs were released, but it is also worth mentioning an article from Anthony Garreffa (TweakTown) who wrote that “no stock will be available till the end of the year”. The announcement from Jensen seems to confirm it.

Huang later added that “there is no supply but a demand issue”. This is honestly hard to believe, as we have heard from our sources that they received a lot fewer cards at launch than they usually did.

NVIDIA has already postponed the release of the GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card to prepare a larger stock at launch. One thing is certain though, there will be a lot more consumers trying to purchase 499 USD model since 699 USD cards are nowhere to be found.

They can only control what happens through their own store. Other retailers which selling is their business couldn't stop them.

The biggest thing I'm curious about is how people were able to by large amounts of cards. Purchases of the cards should be one per address, card, and person (2 for 3090). But I saw bounce alerts messages where they got more than 10. If that was shipping to all one address, that should have been canceled.

Tried pretty hard to find one by F5’ing for the first 2 weeks.  Now I’ve basically given up.  My budget allocation is going to the XBox, and I’m just gonna keep my 2080 super (which is essentially fine for every game I play at ultra settings, with the exception of Flight Sim, which I only need to drop a little from Ultra to get 40-50 fps.).

Long story short, NVidia’s problems lost them my $700USD.

Damn sounds like it's really difficult to pick up a 30 series card in the US, stock ran out fast here in Spain too, but I had no problem getting a 3080 or 3090 on launch day, I even had to option of buying more.

If i was a console player i wouldn't have bother with that upgrade. At first launch availability is always short. This isn't anything new. The challenges with the pandemic don't help things either. Going to have the same problem with the consoles too. Ps5 are already short everywhere.

I managed to get an Asus tuf card yesterday.

I was lucky to have pressed F5 exactly when the cards came on stock. There were like 2-3 cards on stock and I managed to get one after more than 2 weeks of trying...

I will be testing it later today.

Currently I have a Z390 board with an i7 9700k. My plan is to evaluate all aspects when the new CPU's are announced and decide whether I want to jump now on a whole new system or just go with the new GPU and upgrade processor and mobo in a year or so.  I'm not saying my 9700k isn't good but I have a friend who will buy my current system which will take a huge chunk out of a new build. Obviously I have time since I have no idea when I will find a 3000 series card.
