If you ever visit the European Mediterranean coast, I suggest you never voice such opinions for your own well being.

Equating tomato sauce to ketchup is utter sacrilege.

An Aussies opinion:
Chips can classify as packet chips and the fried potato sticks.
American tomato sauce is better than Aussue tomato sauce, as it is too sweet.
Tomato sauce is the true name for ketchup.
Australia has the best gun laws.
Pineapple most certainly does belong on pizza.
Auto transmissions are hugely better than manual.
The ease of life and day to day use is more enjoyable on an iPhone than Android.
Football is not the game with jocks, but the game known as soccer.
American sport is shit.
Also a question foe the Anerican's, do you guys have any mullets up there?

-Chips and Crisps are distinct items--depending on whether the potato was sliced (chip) or an amalgamation like Pringles (crisps).  The Brits are way out in left field on calling fries "Chips"

-Tomato sauce goes on pasta.  It a parent-classification for things like Marinara sauce, Vodka Sauce, Tomato Paste, Bolognese Sauce, etc. Using any of these to describe Ketchup indicates you are a serial killer.

-If your country's laws make it difficult or impossible to enjoy recreational shooting--then your gun laws suck.

-Auto vs. manual is irrelevant--as both suck compared to the power/performance of an electric motors (eg. Rivian R1T).  But I hate rowing gears, so unless you are sequential, paddle/DCG, or at least Sportomatic--Auto wins by landslide.  Plus auto gives you a better feel for the tech of the era when driving classic cars.

-iPhone is "tell me you aren't smart enough to use non-Apple devices....without telling me you aren't smart enough to use non-Apple devices".  And that applies to phones, computers, and everything.

-Call it Hand-Egg.  It really pisses off NFL fans.

-Have you ever seen an NHL playoff game?  Makes your Rugby/ OZ-Rules-Football queens look like primadonnas

-I refused to be lectured on the correctness of my own country's habits, opinions and views by people who enjoy Vegemite, Marmite or Salmiak

-Also a question for the denizens of your continent.  Is any of the wildlife in OZ non-lethal?

Ketchup is its own distinct thing from tomato sauce, so unless you're making the assertion that ketchup is processed garbage, you're telling me that you'd have no problem putting ketchup on pizza. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Yes.

Manual transmissions are enthusiast toys, as far as I'm concerned.

NFL is garbage. The MLB, NHL, and NBA, on the other hand, are extremely engaging. There's just a higher barrier of entry.

old people should not be allowed cell phones or access to cars (spoken from 911 dispatch experience)

drug addicts are not worth the narcan

the US should not have a federal government, we should be made up of individual states (forget the term for micro-countries)

if you work hard enough to become rich/upper middle class you deserve to enjoy the wealth you get and it shouldnt be taxed

Taxes pay for services like police, fire and roads. Also rich people dont pay tax in the US. They have armies of lawyers and accountants that know every tax break, loop hole or policy and apply all of them.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

the tax loopholes are common knowledge, for instance if youre a shift worker you can get a tax break, you can claim yourself as a dependent, if you have debt that isnt credit card related, you can use it as a tax write off, theres a few others but most of the breaks relate to businesses but theres a few that middle class people can and 100% should use and research

Go read the US tax code. I guarantee it you will not understand a word. Thats why most people dont use tax loop holes. Also, loop holes shouldn't exist. If I have to pay tax, the rich should have to pay tax.

This is why I maintain that I am in one of the highest effective tax brackets.  Because I don't know enough to know how to use loopholes, offshore accounts, juggle yearly losses to against future profits, etc.

I recall in 2016 the Libertarian candidate (Johnson I think his name was) proposed eliminating Federal Income tax. Instead using a consumption based tax. Basically you would get more of your pay check but pay more for goods. I thought it was an interesting idea, because it would mean that if you consume more you would pay more. In a way it might be fairer.

But as far as Federal Income tax goes I think everyone should pay their fair share. No loopholes or  write-offs. Your obligated to pay X amount and that is it.

That would punish low wage workers much more because proportionally more of their income would go to sales taxes. Say it's a flat 10% sales tax on everything and you earn $40,000 a year or you earn $200,000 a year. 10% on a $30,000 car is $3,000. $3,000 is a much bigger slice of $40,000 than it is of $200,000. 7.5% vs 1.5%. That's why consumption based taxes aren't so great, the rich still are out ahead.

That's only if the tax is equal for all goods, and not graduated.

For example, all grocery items carrying 5% tax.  Cars up to $50,000 carry at 10% tax.  Cars up to $100,000 carry a 15% tax.  All purchases of $1,000,000 or more carry a 25% tax.  etc.

As with my idea to replace minimum wage with a 50x rule--the opponents of the idea aren't fully grasping the concept.

Rich people will just make a LLC, lease the car under the company, write it off as a business expense.

How could they?  Taxes are paid at point of sale.  There's no write-offs when you aren't filing annual returns.

That’s a point of a consumption tax. You literally have to pay tax when you buy stuff. There would be no filing Income tax. There will be no refunds, write offs or tax shelters.

So sales tax or VAT.  This was looked at back in the 60’s when sales tax was invented.  I don’t remember what the problem was but there was a big one.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

The issue with the way US taxes are designed is if the numbers are large enough it is cheaper to pay someone to figure out how to avoid them than simply merely paying them if the numbers are not large enough it is cheaper to simply pay them.  One way to think of it is those aforementioned rich people don’t care who they are paying the money to so the salaries of those tax avoidance people are effectively the same as taxes.  Some people have been known to pay more in fees to tax avoidance specialists than they would in tax.

If sales taxes were a problem, states wouldn't be reliant upon them for a main source of revenue.

p.s.

Sales tax also has the fringe benefit of encouraging saving--as you won't pay taxes on funds you do not spend.

It had something to do with the amount, so it was kept below a certain level.  The US already has a theoretical flat tax (which in reality heavily favors wealth to the point that it reaches zero at the upper end). One that comes immediately to mind for me is smuggling.  If sales tax was 30%  someone could smuggle something and sell it at full retail markup while still undercutting legal sellers by 30% smuggling would explode.

My understanding is that “banana” flavor was formulated to be similar to a different variety of bananas than are currently shipped.  Something about cloning and disease. I’m not old enough to remember the taste of Cavandish bananas though my parents were.  So yes and no it doesn’t taste like the bananas you eat.  P but it also isn’t supposed to.

So how do you tax businesses who use more public infrastructure and resources than individuals? My car damages the road less than a semi truck. Fighting a fire at my house costs less than at a chemical plant. Do we just start charging everyone a bill for their use of services? How do we make that fair? Can't pay eye firemen they just let your house burn?

Further, how do you manage business expenses and deduction? If my company buys a product to resell, does it get taxed twice or once? If I buy equipment to do billable jobs, am I taxed on the equipment or do I charge tax on the jobs? How do you tax services rendered where a physical good isn't exchanged like a medical exam, accounting work, education?

I have found that the secret to a good banana shake is the oldest brownest most overripe banana you can find. Until they actually go rotten they just get better and better for that.  Inedible any other way I know of, but for that it’s the way to go if you can.
