LTT "Stealth" Water Bottle

BotDamian

Hello,

I want to buy the LTT water bottle but it says the following:

Quote

Do not place in the microwave
Do not place or store in the freezer
This product is not designed for the long-term storage of liquids

What does that mean? What is long-term in hours/days/months?

Take a look at this thread for the in-depth answer.
TLDR: if the liquid is kept in there for a long time, the layer around the aluminum can slowly be eaten away and leave a metal taste in the liquid. This is common with all aluminum water bottles not just the ltt ones.

Ok, but I want to use it as my gaming Bottle and lower my "plastic waste" by spending less on plastic bottles but at the same time support my fav youtube channel. So can I store water in the bottle but like drink and refill it all the time?

Yes, the worry is more for standing liquids

It’s perfectly good for normal usage like that. If it wasn’t, LMG staff wouldn’t use it all time.

The real question:

When will @LinusTech grace us with a .75 Gallon double wall vacuum insulated monstrosity? For those of us who spend our days unloading box trucks filled with laptops, charge carts, desktops, monitors, etc.

Until then I remain resigned to this shoddy quality water vessel from Walmart.

It’s junk, basically. It will deteriorate over time. I’d avoid it, you can’t put it in a dishwasher, can’t put it in a freezer and they say it’s not safe for long term liquid storage. What’s the purpose of it at that point? Lol.

Just grab a bottle that has a glass interior and something more durable on the outside, they’re all over the place and are far safer/durable.

I've never had a dishwasher safe bottle, apart from a crappy tupperware. Nor have I had a freezer safe one, and I would never put one in anyways, I've seen "freezer safe" bottles crack in the freezer. And why would you want to drink water that's been in a bottle for more than 1 day? 4 hours is the max for me, after that it just starts to taste bad.

In real life, I act like I know less about tech than I actually do.

Yes, I'm aware my CPU is a huge bottleneck. No, I don't really care.

To carry around liquids in a thermally isolated container?

It's not like your complaints are specific to the LTT water bottle, but every isolated bottle out there. If it doesn't fit your needs, get something else, but don't call it junk.

You are supposed to change water/liquid daily. So not for weeks. Its not aimed for hiking/camping, better use something made for those things for it.

If liquids aren’t safe to drink after a given amount of time, then logic dictates that whatever is seeping into the water will just be delivered at slower pace with daily use.

No thanks, it’s junk. Glass lined insulated bottles are readily available and won’t poison you.

Which you also can't put into a dishwasher or the freezer. And they will break when dropped.

Everything made from aluminium has this problem. If you are worried about aluminium iones, you should also check your deodorant and refrain from using aluminium foil, aluminium pots or anything else made from aluminium near your food and drinks. I don't know if the LTT bottles are even made out of blank aluminium on the inside. If it's stainless steel, your drink might taste weird after some time, but there is nothing harmfull about it.

Maybe @LinusTech could consider to add information about the material of the bottle to the store page.

(I have nothing against the LTT bottles) I just use two 0.5 L (16 OZ) HDPE plastic bottles. I used my two old ones daily (including regular dishwashing and dropping) for about 5 years without any issues. Never had any leaking problems during those 5 years. In the end, they both cracked slightly in the screwing mechanism at the exact same time, which might be because I close them quite tightly. 5 years on two bottles (more versatile) that cost about 4$ each sounds great to me. I ended up just buying two new ones, ready to go for the next 5 years! (or longer even, now that I don't have to go out as much)
