PSU catching fire

Nkw820

That's very strange. The RMx units have excellent protections so even if something were not plugged in properly or got overloaded, the system should have just shut down. Crosair will replace it and I doubt you'll have this happen again.

It was probably a bad photo, but the ports them selfs have moved because of the heat.

Nope, even the SATA cable on the bottom that you removed had a gap, since you could get that one out - it's safe to assume that the connector wasn't deformed.

One of the capacitors vented out it's insides.

There is a lot of charcoaled matter in there,i am not sure if it's only the insides of the capacitor or the PCB too.

And please remember to mention those you want to reply to you,i wonder what @jonnyGURU thinks about it.

This actually worries me since I'm considering getting a RM750x.

The RMx series is one of the best out there. This is an extreme fringe case and scenario and likely happens in like 1 in 10,000 or something. I have 2 RM550x in 2 of my systems with zero issues.

Ooohh... That's the money shot.

So it doesn't have to do with the cables or connectors.  Something got too hot on the inside.

Definitely want that unit back for failure analysis!!!!

You would vent too if you were sitting next to a fire!

That's crazy!

I totally want to see that unit for myself.

If it's not too much of me to ask - how does failure analysis work? I mean, what do you usually look at?

<picture of the disaster>

Looks like the capacitor didn't blow up but rather got heated and burnt by something next to it.

Edit: oh right:
